hey ladies on remicade,

has your period stopped or been irregular since you began remicade?

so i had my third 'loading' infusion of remicade a couple weeks ago, and i just realized that my period is a itsy bit late, when usually it's like bang on time... the most late it's been is by one day. except when i've been on prednisone, it came a few days late.

so out of curiosity i googled 'remicade and period' and saw a woman's thread about her period stopping after her third remicade infusion.

so i called the special care pharmacy about it, and the pharmacist said that she has had several women call in and mention that their period stopped or there was some change since the third dose of remicade.

she wasn't sure if it goes back to normal after but says that she can't say much about it because the people who do supportive research haven't documented anything about it.

painful breasts, remicade

I have been curious about other female related issues since I started the Remicade. I get extremely painful breasts right before my cycle. And my PMS synptoms seem worse....Anyone else have these symptoms???? If my period stops, that would be the best thing Crohn's has ever done for me, it really messses up my week!! Thanks for posting this thread Cheeky.

When I get my period it seems to be right there every month (which I guess is a good thing since I am 29!!!) but that time of the month is when I feel even worse. I know it comes on time every month. I just started last month taking birth control to stop the prevention of cysts forming. Last year I had a cyst that burst and I was so afraid and in a lot of pain I thought it was my intestines. The pain was around the same area of where my surgery site was. I was so relieved to find out that my ileum was still intact. That cyst really hurt! I feel that they looked at me like I was crazy because when they told me that it was a cyst that burst that was cuasing the pain I said Oh great as long as its not my intestines may I go home now! My doctor also said since my symptoms of crohns increase around this time that birth control would also help with that.
I am on Remicade also but I dont think that it has altered anything relating to my period.

You're quite welcome imisspopcorn! : ) hopefully we find out something new...

JennJenn, funny I'm also 29 and my name is also Jenn : P My period has always been super regular all my life, but since I've had Crohn's i've developed cysts on my ovaries and now with the third dose of Remicade (and previously on Prednisone) my cycle is a little behind schedule.

maybe it will show up, I'd HATE to have it be irregular after years of being able to count down to the exact day. ARGH! plus i'm going on vacation at the end of the month so i don't want any surprises.

Well thats good that it just showed up! At least you will not have that surprise now on your vacation!

I don't know about the remicade but what I do know is that since I started getting Depo-Provera injections every three months, my period has stopped which is awesome.
My symptoms always seemed to be amplified around that time. So glad I don't have to deal with that anymore.

I have been on remicade but my period stopped a few months before that anyway, haven't had one in ages, most probably due to being underweight and low iron. Have to agree though I don't miss the extra added stomach pains!

I have always been right on time too and in the last year I keep missing almost every other one - the doc. checked my hormone levels and said it wasn't early menopause - I'm 45 - and this started before the Remicade - about 4 months prior - so who knows - I don't mind missing them at all!

Hey Cheeky,

I have been on Remicade since May, and I just became irregular, but this just started the last couple months. Prior to this I was like clockwork. Thanks for posting this, because I had never thought it might be due to the Remicade.

For those who are talking about developing cysts, is that Crohns related?

Great! Another lovely thing to worry about.....It never ends. Why can't a side effect of Crohn's be increased breast size or your eyelashes grow thick and beautiful????

I am not on remicaid i am on humira however, I have noticed that when i am predisone my period is twice as heavy as normal and i pass a lot of blood clots. any one else with this problem? Kinda been a little embarrassed/afraid to ask. I also have had cysts which my gyn said was nothing to worry about.

actually when i spoke to the special care pharmacy, the pharmacist mentioned that women on humira have also mentioned period changes.

so far, i've noticed my period is a bit heavier than usual, but other than that... i think i'm ok.

when i was on pred, my period was a few days late at first, but nothing unusual that i remember.

only thing that bothered me was when i was on imuran, the first few months, i had a lower libido and mild skin problems.

at first my doctor said my cysts aren't that big, but i'm waaaaay overdue for an ultrasound because she wanted me to get a followup ultrasound when she realized my cysts were still there when i had a ct scan... but i don't have any serious pain, so i'm not worried.

So glad I found this post. I am on the nuva-ring so my period is always very regular, I was diagnosed with Crohn's a few months ago & had the worst period Of my life, did some research that shows periods are worse with chron so of course I was dreading my period this month, nuva-ring came out Monday, it is now Saturday night & no sign of aunt flow...

Oddly enough I recently had my 3rd remicade infusion also. I'm going to take a prego test (for my own sanity) then call my dr I guess to find out if I should start the next nuva-ring like normal, or what...

Thanks for posting!! I love these forums, they are usually more enlightening than my dr. Visits!!

Diagnosed jan 2014
Meds: predisone, lialda, remicade infusion, celexa, protonic, tramadol, Hyoscyamine Sulf,

I lost my period while on Remicade, and I didn't get it again until I had been off of Remicade for two months.

I have several appointments with several different drs this month so they will ALL be aware if the changes going through...I did not mind one bit missing it though because the last one was HE double hockey sticks!! To say the least :-/
