To all forum members,

Just to let you know that my sister Laura (22) will be featured on this coming Tuesday's the 'Food Hospital'. This series follows people with different conditions and explores whether food can be an effective medicine.

The Food Hospital says; "Diet is a major factor when it comes to health and wellbeing and different foods can have helpful or harmful effects on different illnesses. Select a food or diet below to find out more about it and to learn what impact it can have on different medical conditions".

I hope some of you can tune in this tuesday to support her, my family and all other people who deal with crohns.

For more information visit the food hospitals website.

If you have any questions please pop me an email :)

saw this program advertised and i wondered if there would be something involving crohns on it! I'll be watching.

Only a few days to go :) i'll answer any questions people want to ask after the show has aired. :) the diet really works so will be interesting to pass on some knowledge to others xx

Hi nando
I know Walsall really well, worked at Walsall Jobcentre for 12 years!!
My mate was a nurse at the Manor Hospital-is it still there??

So far so good, but I have to admit I'm a little disappointed that the diet in it is elemental and LOFFLEX, they're good diets but they're not that new, and it's very all or nothing. From the adverts I thought it would be looking at adding 'superfoods' to the diet.

But Laura, you're very brave for doing it! :)

Hmm, the trailer I just watched on the channel 4 website (we dont have a telly!), was kind of - here's Laura and her diet which she's doing instead of her normal medication of steroids. I know television people simplify things due to the lowest common denominator principle, but there is sooo much more to it than the conclusion Jo Public would gain; namely that Laura's Crohn's is going to be cured.
Just hope the prog is better laid out than that.

It did say that this was another 'tool' to control symptoms, and Crohn's is still incurable. But it explained Crohn's really well to Joe Public I thought, complete with (not too graphic) pictures so people can see what we really look like inside.

But I can't wait till I get to work tomorrow and everyone's telling me about this 'new cure' and have I tried fixing myself with food? At least the LOFFLEX part makes it clear that I really WAS telling the truth about not being able to eat fibre or anything vaguely healthy ;)

yeah it did explain the disease to the unaware very well, hope my bosses watched it!
But the LOFFLEX diet is nowt new is it?
Just a tarted up version of the low residue diet, without the Elemental 028
But IMO, they should've stressed that it's important to get the inflammation under control first, have some degree of remission, and be under their consultants watch.
If someone with severe inflammation tried this on their own, I believe it would/could have a devastating effect.
That's just my own opinion from my own personal experience, no diet could've saved me from death last year, Prednisolone and Metronidazole did that!

I sometimes have monthly flare ups too, and a low residue diet, food journal and exclusion diet works for me. It takes time to adjust and get your head round it, but I know what not to eat off by heart now.

Well done Laura, hope you're well and as Dr. Pixie says, 'in remission forever'

not able to get this programme in Canada.
Looking forward to hearing more about it.
Bravo Laura for agreeing to share the programme and hope you continue to do well.

I liked it i remember when i first had that liquid diet had all sorts of stupid thoughts going through my head like, i must be the only one on earth doing this e.t.c so was mad to see it on the television...

HEY

Firstly the elemental 028 drinks i found good 1)when i couldnt chew food well etc and was sore to eat 2)stop the bloating pain etc that id normally have whilst going through the flare up with my lips skin etc so that was good- and def helped me put on weight

The Lofflex- i had no idea whether it was new or not- it was good the safe foods worked for me 100 % .... rice, rice products (rice noodles YUMMY) (rice milk) lean meats, no oily fish seedless skinless fruit and veg,

no citrus, no choc, no dairy, no caffine, no fatty meats, no wheat, no corn no processed meats, no sauces, no cold potatoes, no cold rice, .... etc etc

It was difficult to re-add new foods- Wheat i tested first and WOW bloating was BAD for 3 days

But then to reintroduce more and more- was quitedifficult its like i wanted to space it out much more- but then thought oooooo iv got to geta few foods done so i have something to report back with.... so im now obviously doing it in my own time so i can be sure of what works and what doesnt.... Dairy was already a big NO any way
And alcohol def one milion percet causes the visual symptons that you saw

BUT so does stress!!! stress is as bad as alcohol so i'll never be 'SAFE' cos you cant control stress

we all know that being in remission forever.... its not something anyone can say about someone Hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the support i like hearing your stories... im learning everyday more and more x
