I used to find that laying down on my belly helped ease my symptoms a little. I felt like my stomach was being hugged and massaged by my bed which eased the pain and gas.

I now find that laying on my stomach hurts, it's like having a really uncomfortable yoga stretch for my intestines. I don't get why it has suddenly changed but figured I'd post this to see if others feel better/worse in this position.

I used to sleep on my belly before i got crohns, slowly stopped due to it being uncomfortable. Now I can't at all, the pain is unbearable. Saying that it hurts laying on my back as it stretches my stomach too!

id give anything to sleep on my front again, since ive had a drain there since dec last year i think ive had no more than 2 hrs sleep in a row trying to sleep on my back , it just wont happen, sleeping on my front even when the pains kicked in did seem the easiest somehow, its the main reason i wont let them leave me with a stoma, lol, the bed is almost redundant, waste of time going to it at night, the big comfy recliner is the best bet

For me it depends on the pain I'm in. Sometimes I can sleep on my stomach and sometimes I can't. I don't really know why. I guess it depends on what and where is hurting at that particular time.

I've never been able to sleep or lie on my stomach - even at the beach I'd find it uncomfortable. But I sometimes find if my stomach is aching i can lie forward with my knees tucked up but spread so that my tummy hangs between them. I wondered if it helped because it allowed the intestine to move into a different position. I don't know if this is even possible but it did help sometimes.

I wish I could lie on my stomach but daren't with my ileostomy...

thats the reason among many other things i wont let them leave me with one , , its pure hell not getting a good sleep, amazing how it affects your day to day routine

Sometimes laying down on my stomach is the only thing that makes certain pains tolerable. It's hard for me to sleep that way, but I read while laying on my heating pad and it really helps.

Slept on my tummy with one leg up all my life. Had surgery and catheters in for about three months and only last night did I finally get to semi-sleep on my belly again.

That said, I can truly empathize with you! I hope things normalize because sleeping on my back sucked.

That reminds me, about two months ago I splurged and bought one of the best recliners I've sat in.

If interested check for a retailer near you that sells them, try one, then buy it or try to get one online. The brand is Ekornes and the product line is called Stressless. They come in small medium and large. I love this thing and am in it as I type. Slept in it nearly every night.

M30-

It's just weird- How things fall into place little by little. I am going to look for that info again. It was online, I am thinking it was a "do you have CD" type of thing.

I love sleeping on my side or stomach but i find it makes me go to the toilet more even mucus starts to leak more but lying on my back hurts as well as i have AS and some fusing joints

I lay on back or right side only, I could probably lay on my stomach with just intial pain. I can not tolerate being on my left side for even one second the pain in way to intense. None of the doctors have been able to tell me why I can not lay, lean or anything to the left without extreme pain.

I don't think I have ever in my life slept on my stomach. I imagine if I were to lay down on it, it would hurt, so I'm not trying. I"m a side sleeper, all curled up with my knees by by tummy. But laying down at all hurts, in any position. It seems to set off immediate stomach pains.

Me too! I used to like sleeping on alternating sides, but now I wake myself up in pain if I turn over on left side in my sleep. So it is right side only, pillow between knees, heating pad snugged up to my stomach.

I'm having so much diffuculty sleeping on my side or stomach, I lie and am fine for a few minutes but the pain starts up slow build until I'm spasming - it's so frustrating, I don't sleep on my back and never have so I always roll to the side and then am woken up!

I've tried hot water bottles, herbal teas, pain killers until I should be comatose - I'm not sleeping at all at the moment! Maybe because I'm also on prednisone and azathioprine?
