LDN in the UK

if anyone has any spare luck, maybe you could send some in my direction lol. i'm going in 2 days to see a physician, specifically to request him to start me on LDN. i don't know whether this guy has even heard of it, let alone would prescribe it - so i may have a tough job on my hands. but i'm going to try my best. will let you know the outcome.

All the best. Hit him with your big guns first (and no folks, that wasn't a sexist remark.. I meant the articles from the American Journal of Gastro... AND the name(s) of any UK based compounding pharmacies.. and what the consult had to say).. That way you show him a respected peer group journal report, a local safe source, and the experienced opinion of a local consult that it is a possible solution he would consider in your situation. Try to take it easy, Sue.. remember, don't fold if he says no.. keep fighting for it.

thanks Kev.

yep i'm collating a file to present to him, in case he is new to the treatment - blind him with science, as it were. i hadn't thought of the compounding pharmacy info though - thanks, i'll look into that.

Yeah, its a practical consideration.. and it means that if he agrees at onset, and you have the name of the closest UK location that will compound the LDN he is pretty much at a loss for dragging his feet. Get him to agree, once he says yes, then say 'Here's the pharmacy that makes it'.. get him to write up a prescription then/there. doesn't allow him any time to change his mind on you

I am going to ask for LDN on Thursday when I see my consultant - i am scared of him though as he has a major attitude problem.

BUT none of his "conventional" drugs are doing sod all so I don't see what there is to lose really ?

I am making a file for him.

From what I understand, it's quite hard to get NHS doctors to attempt experimental treatments like this. My fingers are crossed for you though.

Well, the old adage is that it doesn't hurt to ask.. I really never expected my GI to agree... Imagine if I hadn't even put the question to her. Where would I be now? Injecting metho, lower success rate than LDN, and a potential list of side effects and long term health implications to really lose sleep over. A real no-brainer.

:( I'm sorry to hear this FL... well if you were as bullheaded as I was about getting LDN, you could go to other doctors and specialists until you find one who will prescribe you.

Fruitloop - did they give you any reasons as to why they wouldn't prescribe it? has your doctor actually heard of it? i would keep on fighting, if i were you. i may have to myself, depending on the answer i get from my team.

does anyone living in the UK take LDN, or have you ever? or, do you know anyone in this country who is taking it?

if so, i'd be really grateful to know which area health authority sanctioned the prescription. thanks.

If a physician won't prescribe it, you could always try to get into a study, that was my backup plan. Although, I don't know if there are studies in the UK on that...
