Lialda is so expensive.
I just don't ever feel good anymore, I'm failing all of my classes, and I haven't looked for a job in months even though I know I need money. Everything I do seems pointless when I think stuff like "How am I ever supposed to support myself when I take more than $20 worth of pills in a day?" Yesterday, I had to go to the pharmacy to pick up some more, and I looked at the receipt and cried for about an hour after I got home. It was $652.56 for 120 pills (4/day), and that's WITH assistance from Shire and my medical insurance.
There's got to be another way, but my doctor insists that Lialda will work for me and that if it doesn't, it's because I need a higher dose.
I know I can either bother my doctor again about prescribing something else or go to a new doctor; I just needed to complain.

hi,

have you checked out canadian pharmacies?

I just got diagnosed with crohn's and my doc prescribed me the same thing. When the pharmacist told me about the price, and I found out there was no generic...I flipped. I am currently looking into some canadian online sources for Lialda.

In the meantime I have been feeling way better via diet. I have been doing a Paleo+Low FODMAPS(basically avoiding stuff that pisses off the intestinal lining and bacteria) Diet with daily probiotics prescribed by my naturopath. This lady has a good blog about why this is good for us IBD folks:

google "eat real food paleodietician" check out the blog that comes up. I am not allowed to post links because I am new. sorry.

Anyway I feel way better from this diet and haven't even been taking any meds while I get this worked out.

Granted, I am newly diagnosed. Just thought I would share where I am at. You are not alone in the confusion. Diet helps.

I understand what you are saying. I retired a few years ago and though I was set for life and then crohns came my way, I was DX with crohns at age 61, thats right, 61 years old. Then my pention provider changed my Insurance to a high Deductiable plan and now I'm paying about $15,000.00 a year. I look at the cost of meds and it makes me so depressed. I will not have the money to live as I thought. I don't know what to do. I have been blessed so far and God has taken care of me and my wife (that also has IBD, we have been together for 40 years now)

I just try to take it one day at a time.

If u have the LIALDA pharmacy card AND medical insurance you should not pay more than $10/month for LIALDA. I would call Shire to make sure ur card is valid (I had an issue where my card was invalid and I got another and was back to paying $10/month). And then talk to ur pharmacist and have them run it again for u
