I was diagnosed with Crohn's April 7th.
SO I am in the process of trying to put this sucker in remission.

I was wondering if any of you have tried to do a Liquid Diet for about 5-6 weeks to put their flare up in remission?
(I met a guy he's 22 and he's had Crohn's since he was 15 and he plays soccer for college.. very active) & he told me when he has a flare up he does the liquid diet .. 6 shakes, 7 weeks, 6 times a day.

(i'm consulting with my doc and i would be under a watchful eye with all of this going on if i decide to do it) & i would also do protein shakes & juice to get vitamins and nutrients.

just wondering if this has helped anyone since i know after a flare up going to remission takes a LONGG time..

thoughts? :)

This is called enteral nutrition and alot have used this to kick start remission. In some studies it has the same effeicacy as prednisone without all the side effects. But also like prednisone once you stop it won't maintain remission.

You should be able to click on the highlighted word in my post to get more info or can do a search for enteral nutrution on EN

I am tapering off Prednisone now (tomorrow i will be starting 5 mg)
& i just want to be in remission and it not take MONTHS upon MONTHS!
thank you for the info! :)

My daughter is 16 and had crohns for 5 years. She has been on pred since January this year and every time they wean her off she flares. The drs have now put her on a liquid diet (8 milkshakes a day plus water) to try and wean her off the steriods. She is struggling with the drinks but fingers crossed they will help her

Clare that is horrible!! I'm tapering off and I've noticed more more pain.
I hope the liquid diet will help her and me too!! :) good luck to her!! <3

Dear Patriciaxo, drs have now put Jessica on a low fibre diet as she cannot drink the milkshakes, making her feel very sick. consultants have said that if she starts to bleed she will have to go back on milkshakes. A lady on here mentioned Jessica having a PEG tube fitted. we had a look online and watched a video about this and look a very simple procedure and think it may be an idea for Jess if she has to return to a liquid diet. A feeding tube in her tummy rather than an NG tube (which she had one before and hated it). Jess now on 15mg of steriods and weaning off slowly. Will keep my fingers crossed for you. xxx
