Liquid doesn't move from stoma at night

I think part of my leakage problem is that the liquid sits near the stoma since I'm not standing and giving it a chance to flow down in the pouch while I sleep. The pouch also twists itself up since I often lay on my side.

I have tried the salts to solidify the liquid but it doesn't help much because the liquid sits by the stoma. Any tips?

How do you sleep? If you sleep on your back try lying on your side as for me the liquid just slides right down. I also never have problems with my bag twisting so I'm not sure how to help you with that.

I'm mainly sleeping on my side but the bag is very large (14") for high output which might be why it's twisting and pancaking by stoma.

I wish I knew what to tell you. Nyxs idea of the bag cover may work but only if your bag fits. I hope your bag stops twisted on you. Do you hang it straight down when you attach it or do you have it hang at an angle? I assume you hang it straight down in which case, for me, the bag hangs nicely down to the bed. Maybe you could try and flatten it on to the bed so it doesn't twist if that makes any sense. Sorry, I just had two mid terms and a quiz today plus several hundred pages of reading so I'm not super coherent at the moment.

Thanks guys I'm still bag shopping and also need high output bags now. I'm hoping that will change but I know in order to buy a pouch cover I need to decide on a pouch. I still have a zillion samples. I don't put the bag on straight because it would sit right over my genitals so I try to angle it a bit. I'm going to try underwear that holds the pouch in place.

Aside from the twists which you guys don't face, what do you do to get the contents away from your barrier? When you lie flat it just become a poo sea no that doesn't flow down.

I don't have output at night, so can't help you with that...sorry! Hopefully someone will come along and give you some insight.

Your stoma's 'young' so your output will definitely be higher right now. Have you tried something like the Adapt lubricant? When you're putting a new bag on, just add a few drops to your bag and 'swish' it around. If you don't have the money to buy the lubricant, I've found that spraying 'Pam' works just as well (if not better). It helps move stuff down.

In order to control my nighttime output, i used to eat earlier in the evening and just have a small snack a couple of hours before bed time. I also used to not eat anything too high fibre...the thicker output would pancake at the top and not 'slide' down easily.

The only other thing that I do is I wear boxer briefs to bed. It keeps the bag fairly snug and straight against my body with little movement. And if I have a blowout at night, it somehow manages to contain the crap from going all over the bed.

All in all, the lubricant really was helpful...good luck!

Thank you! Do you re-apply the lubricant every time you empty the bag? I like the idea of adding something to help it slide down.

As for the boxers, I'd be afraid to put the bag in there because my bag bloats up from
gas. Not that I want an accident anywhere but it's particularly disturbing when it's on your genitals! I have been putting it in my sweatpants and I wear them at night which contains it a tad.

I put the lubricant on at night before bedtime. I gotta say, that Pam works like a dream!

When I first was dealing with my stoma, and was having all kinds of problems (similar to your troubles), I was *extremely* sulky and full of self-pity. So I treated myself to Calvin Klein boxer briefs (I also use Fruit of the Loom ones, too). And yes, my bag blows up at night with gas (thank you, chicken dinner with broccoli) and it's HUGE with air, but the stretch in the boxers just stretches along with the bag...it doesn't inhibit the bag in any way.

Hope that helps!

Kismet
