Hi all,

I am having active disease at the moment (CONSTANT stomach grumbling and D about 5-7 times a day), on humira now x1 weekly since about 4 weeks ago, made some improvement but hasn't settled the flare properly yet :(
I ate some liquorice at 12.40pm today and by 1.30 by stomach was going crazy, grumbling and had D urgently x3 in the space of 30 minutes or so. I also got some harsh cramping. My word, did I know I had reacted to that!

Has anyone else reacted to something so quickly and intensely, like liquorice for example? I thought 'oh my word, what have I done?! I only ate a tiny bit of liquorice.' I literally felt like my stomach was doing all in its might to expel it and it did so harshly! My bad... :eek2:

oh..feel sorry for you lulabelle. never felt this bad, but I have felt my worst with cauliflower.

Cauliflower is the devil, it's part of the sprout family, isn't it? They often make people with crohns quite bad. I had turkey and rice before and it even threw a wobbly at that :/ rice krispies for dinner then...

Yes, I've reacted to something very quickly - not licorice, for me coconut is public enemy #1. At Thanksgiving last year, I went to my aunt's house. She offered me some gluten-free gravy and I didn't think to ask what is in it. I poured some gravy on my potatoes and turkey, nibbled away, and as I was still finishing my meal I started to feel nauseous, sweaty, just plain ill - oh no, what was in that gravy? Of course, it was coconut flour - she just put in a bit to thicken the gravy, but it only takes a bit of coconut to make me feel terrible. I was sick for 4 days because of a pinch of coconut! At any rate, yes, that made me ill immediately, as I was still eating it. Certain trigger foods can kick in right away, apparently! :(

do you mean licorice the sweet candy or licorice the herbal plant?

if its a candy, then the sugar content would be affecting you. I can control my symptoms of diarhea by reducing all sugars in my diet refined or natural sourced. lactose and sucrose are the simple sugars that pathogens can utilize to grow and make toxins. For more info read breaking the vicious cycle which talks about the Specific Carbohydrate diet. its helped me for 5 years now.
