Hello everyone!
I'm new to the forum today and am really impressed with what I've seen so far. I'm a 33-year-old woman from England who's had IBD symptoms since age 17, been diagnosed with mild UC since age 23, and have within the last 5years or so suffered a couple of slightly more severe flare-ups, including some extra-intestinal manifestations, especially relating to skin, mouth and eye, and arthritis.
It's nice to meet you all!

I wanted to write today because I'm getting quite concerned about some intense burning, twisting and knotting sensations that I've been having in my upper abdomen and under my rib cage. The main problem is that my partner and I moved to Portugal in the autumn and I still don't have a doctor here (I'm waiting for my social security number to come through but it seems to be taking forever), so I'm not really sure how to go about getting advice/treatment in the meantime.
The pains started occasionally towards the end of February, lasted a good month or two (with some very uncomfortable nights and pain) then seemed to die down again (I got really serious about my diet -eating loads of raw veg and reducing sugar etc) but have come back with a vengence the last few days.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this and can give me advice as to how urgently I should get it checked out?
It mostly feels like how I imagine it'd feel to swallow bleech, or to have your internal organs microwaved! Not pleasant! I also have a lot of gas, and gas pains lower down in my colon, quite a bit of acid reflux and rather limited appetite. I'm also noticing that I hardly ever feel like drinking despite being clearly dehydrated, but that I'm peeing quite a lot - and it's very light in colour. So I'm concerned about my liver... and I know there can be liver complications with IBD. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi Heidi and welcome to the forum :) I'm sorry to hear you're having troubles and that move certainly does complicate things :(

In my opinion, anytime symptoms worsen to the degree that you're describing, you should get checked out sooner rather than later. I'm not saying run to the emergency room as soon as you read this, but you should be seen very soon. I know that's hard without insurance :(

Thanks, David.
I've been really lucky since I posted -turns out that a friend of a freind just happens to be a very kind IBD consultant and he's offered to see me and get some bloodwork done this Friday. Talk about small (friendly) world!
Fingers crossed..
Best of health to you :)
