Hello all,

I notice that there doesn't seem to be a forum for ostomy's and wondered whether this was the right place to post this thread. Anyway, I have a loop ileostomy and wondered if anyone else has one. I also wondered if anyone has had one and had a reversal?. Just to clarify, my loop ileostomy is from my small bowel (I have read articles on different sites that refer to an ileostomy as being from the colon - I thought that was a colostomy - which is which?) I would be interested to know what the reversal op is like and what I am likely to expect after wards in terms of recovery and how long it might be before my bowels have settled down. any advice would be welcomed :sign0085:

I have one actually. I've had it about 2 and a half years now. And had it replaced once. I'm in a hurry and not feeling well right now, I can post more later or you can email me.

A ostomy from the colon would be a colostomy. illiostomy means from the terminal illieum.

Cheers, I really would be interested in chatting more about this, when you've got time.

Hi Ruth,

I have a loop ileostomy too, had it for 8 years now, but a reversal is not on the cards for me. Sometime in the future I'll be having a total colectomy, so can't advise on reversal, sorry!

Skinsfan... you have a wealth of knowlege for being 21. Thanks for the replies. I'm sooo interested in this thread because I am still considering surgery. I just absolutely hate taking so many drugs all the time, and feeling only ok. I would rather have surgery, if I could actually feel good once in a while!!!!

I know that most of my knowledge came from just reading, mostly internet articles although I have read 4 or 5 books on GI problems, of course mainly crohns.

I'm here anytime you need to talk. I think we should have a seperate sub-forum for surgeries, its a pretty common enough thing in crohns to include.

I do always feel better after every surgery, much, but the question is....how long, I always end up feeling bad again, its just a toss up for how long I feel 'good'.

good luck Ruth, I hope you can figure out if the reversal is in the cards for you.
