Greetings,

i just wanted to throw a line out and see if anyone had any suggestions for some one who has both crohn's and anemia?

i find it hard to work out becuse im tired and weak and just plain depressed. i dont want to whine but any help would be awesome, and i love this website iv lived almost 15 yars with out ever meeting some one who had this to, much less spoke to them :)

Hi Kimberly!! I was anemic for a long time until my hematologist told me that for Crohn's patients, it's best to have the iron infused because it will bypass your GI tract and not cause any stomach/gut aggravation. I did try over the counter iron years ago, but that cause severe gut pain & I wound up in the ER as I was on the floor crying.

I had the infusion done last summer. It's 2 session that last 1 1/2 hr. each. Basically, you go to an outpatient clinic at the hospital, sit in a comfy chair, watch tv, and eat whatever they offer.

I've had 3 infusions the last 20 yrs. and it has been a HUGE help as I can't eat green leafy veggies due to being on a blood thinner.

Yes, Crohn's is a pain in the tushy. I feel for you. I'd definitely bring it up to your GI or primary MD. Either one can prescribe the outpatient infusion.

take care. Gutless Wonderwoman :)

that dosent sound to bad at all, yeah i know what you mean i was on iron pills for a moths and had to take a few days off becuse the pain was just to much, greens dont bother my tummy at all what bothers me most is tomatos and meat and milk thats bout it i try to stay away from fried foods but its hard when you are surrounded by it

Getting your anemia under control first would probably be prudent. You might want to start working out by just putting on your earplugs and going out for short walks around the neighborhood, or even around the block. Which will provide the added benefits of fresh air and vitamin D enriched sunshine, which may also help with depression and increasing your energy levels.

Losing weight is the result of consuming less calories than you burn, so you either need to increase your activity, and/or decrease caloric intake. Many people with Crohns have found many health benefits from going on the SCD (specific carbohydrate diet), both in terms of weight and in relieving the symptoms of their illness.

I wish you all the best. :)

Oh, I meet people with Crohns and related illnesses all the time. Probably because I have a habit of starting conversations with total strangers, including emergency and doctors' waiting rooms, and I'm a good listener. People like talking about themselves to those who genuinely are interested in hearing about their lives, so they usually start telling me every intimate detail, often within the first few minutes.

If you start conversations with others while sitting in your doctors waiting office, good chance you could start meeting fellow Crohn's sufferers for conversation and support.

Juicing is a brilliant way to loose weight and improve over all health - it really helped me to find the energy to get through the day when I was anemic.

Here is a link to The juice masters site - it looks a bit salesmany but actually there is loads of free recipes, tips and advice on there. And I promise it works.
