I just wondered if anyone else has experienced low back pain during a flare up? I'm having one at the moment, not a bad one thank goodness but during the last 2 weeks my lower back has been so painful, and seems directly related to bowel movements, gets much worse after one then seems to tail off, although never going completely.
I've not really had this before, despite having Crohns for over 14 years. Just wondered if anyone else gets this and has any holistic advice, or should I just go and see my Dr???

Hi Bryonyboo
I too get low back pain during flares. I attribute it to some large joint arthritis. It is predominantly one-sided and just above my hip bone extending nearly to my spine. Does this sound like what you're experiencing?
I wonder if, because it worsens with bowel movements, if something is putting pressure from within on your back during this time and maybe is muscular or perhaps adhesions?
I have found nothing holistic that helps to date, and would be interested if there is an all natural solution. Additionally, however, I've found Tylenol doesn't touch it and tramadol gives me a bad headache. Since crohnies can't take NSAIDS my physical therapist suggested a transdermal ibuprofen (which my GI approved because it doesn't go through the digestive system.) It is made up by a compounding pharmacist and applied topically in a cream. I find it to be extremely helpful to get me through those hard days.
Good luck and hope you can find some relief.
