low dose flagyl

Hi all, just wondering how much is considered a low dose flagyl prescription. I want to talk to my talk about trying this. Is it 1 pill a day? Does it work for you?

Flatly is am ab? I'm not too familiar with that at a treatment but if u do go that route, remember to keep up the good bacteria with probiotics else you could do more damage than good.

Flagyl is not really a "low dose" medication, due to it being an antibiotic-type medication. If it is something you were going to concider talking to your doctor about, explain your concerns about the medication (I am guessing you have concerns thus asking about low-dosing) and between the two of you hopefully you can work something out. :)

Good luck!

Everytime I come off the Flagyl four days later I have a fever and the pain around my fistula ramps up. I was wondering if you could stay on it all the time. I am planning on talking to my doctor but thought maybe someone might have tried it.

OK...lol...that is a bit of a different story..... :)

In a case like that, you can try a bit of a lower dose for a longer period of time. Like me, for example: I have been on Flagyl for over a year now.... 6 monthes at 500mg four times a day, then went down to 500 mg twie a day for a few months, and now take 500 mg twice a day every other day. Now I am also on Cipro, Imuran, and a couple of 5ASA meds, as well as prednisone, and I started to have symptoms of peripheral neuropothy (tingly toes), so we started cutting back the Flagyl to see if that was the cause, as it could have been any of the meds causing such a symptom, but I digress.....

Anyway, to get back to your question  , yes you can go on a lower dose for a longer period of time, so definitely talk to your doc to see if you can work something out. :)

Hi Sailorluna, I 've been experimenting something similar until my last resection surgery, which gave me some relief.

I don't know if exactly what you feel is, but in my case I used the Antibiotics for killing the excess of bacteria, which causes badabsorption, gases and discomfort. :(

So, after getting worse every time I come off the Flagyl many times, I ended up having 250 mg of antibiotics every other day.

The bad side of having antibiotics for log time is that your body may get used to it, so in case of needing it for another issue, it would cause no effect.

I tried many antibiotics by medical advice, and the ones that worked better for me were Metronidazole (Flagyl) and Rifaximin. Rifaximin is almost as good as Flagyl (in my own experience) and it is said to have less side effects because it goes straight to the colon, so the rest of your body is not being affected to it.

I hope this helps. You can investigate this and ask your doc about it.
