Low-grade fevers

I've noticed that DS has been running low-grade fevers (99.4 or lower) for some time. I know that it's probably from the abscess and/or fistula but even before his dx (and subsequent perforation and surgery...UGH) he had been running slightly high. I also know that can be part of the Crohn's. I guess my questions are: why do Crohn's patients have low-grade fevers? The inflammation? And for those who are on/have been on Remicade, does it help with the low-grade fevers? It's just so hard to feel his forehead and almost always feel he's hot. I feel I can't trust any symptoms to accurately tell me what's going on! So far I've just gone by the rule that anything under 100 I don't worry about unless he's lethargic or something else is going on.

My son had low grade fevers that usually appeared at night. His was due to the active inflammation and they occurred until his remicade treatment started. After his first infusion the fevers seemed to dissapate.

Yep same here with DS at night - low grade
But once remicade took over they went away.
He has them again due to arthritis inflammation not crohn's .
We were told above 100.5 to call Gi .

Yes, my daughter has had them - both with arthritis and with Crohn's. Hers go up to 100.3. We were told to call if they are higher than 100.4.

When my daughter's arthritis and Crohn's were controlled, the fevers went away. In her case that was on Remicade and methotrexate and before that Humira and methotrexate.

My daughter had fevers too. In fact, her primary symptoms were fever and stomach ache. The pediatrician kept saying it was a virus, and Crohn's Disease certainly never crossed our minds!

Even after she started on Prednisone, the fevers continued. The doctor had said not to use her temperature to determine whether she was well enough to go to school, but to be guided by how she felt. So a couple of times I actually sent her off to school with a fever of 102. She felt well enough and wanted to go, and her day went fine, but it certainly made me feel like a bad mother.

For a while we were obsessively taking her temperature and adjusting for the time of day (you probably know that body temperature is on a diurnal cycle). Drove the kid nuts.

In our daughter's case, she went into remission very quickly on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Fever and stomach ache daily for four months, then the change of diet, and amazingly she hasn't had either symptom since. All the inflammatory markers in her bloodwork went back to normal also. So my guess is that the fever is connected with the inflammation.

I hope your son is healing well.

My son had daily fevers due to active inflammation. His temp would be normal or almost normal first thing in the morning, but would gradually increase during the day, up to about 102 F by bedtime. Prednisone kicked in and the fevers went away.
