Hi Everyone,

Has anyone ever had a barium enema come back with the result saying that there is no apparent fistula when in fact there is one? I have a nasty feeling that I have one, but nothing showed up on my test. I have had one before so I know what it feels like. Sometimes it seems like I'm running in circles trying to get a doctor to listen to me...

Thanks...

hi Poolside, welcome to the forum :)

i've never had a fistula, so i can't really help on that.. but i know that we can have various diagnostic tests done which miss evidence of Crohn's. sometimes it's really difficult to actually locate the effects of the disease during diagnostic procedures, even when it is most definitely there somewhere...

have you had a colonoscopy, or being booked for one? that is sometimes more effective than a barium enema, as it enables a good look at the lining and state of the bowel, plus biopsies can be taken at the same time.

Thanks for the replies,
Saidinstouch: I had the barium enema and it came back showing no fistulae
Dingbat: thanks for your input and the welcome :), I've had many colonoscopies but none recently, maybe a good idea to get another...
Nyx: Good idea, I think I'll inquire about a CT scan, I'm a cancer survivor so I wouldn't mind another "peak" at my abdomin anyways.
