I was diagnosed about 2 years ago when I was 22. I lived away from home for college and was not able to see a GI doctor other than for my initial colonoscopy and diagnosis. I was placed on prednisone and pentasa, and felt that they never helped my symptoms, but I learned to "live with it."
Fast forward to this fall and my symptoms got much worse. I wound up going to the ER with an "almost" bowel obstruction and sent home with pain and nausea meds.
I have a pretty great doctor now, but we're still figuring out how to get my symptoms under control. Humira was working well for a couple months, but now seems to be wearing off too soon between dosages.
My mom also has crohn's but has had very different experiences. Sometimes it gets hard to cope with all the stress and "not feeling good". I worry that I won't be able to work in my field of choice when I graduate if my health keeps going downhill.
I am so glad I've found this forum and this community. Thanks to you all for your advice, info, and personal experiences. It's more of a help than you know.

Remission is always in sight so don't think that Crohn's is going to continue to control your life. You will be able to do what you want to do once your condition is managed. Check out the Success Stories (fairly new subforum) and see those of us who are or have been in remission. http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=72 Glad you're seeing a doctor you like and one that listens to you. Hope you get things under control soon. Welcome again to the forum! :D

Hello and welcome to the forum :bigwave: I too am glad that you have a good doc to see about this. Perhaps check out the treatment forum to look at some alternative meds to discuss with your doc. It is also worth checking the diet forum and looking up liquid diets (enteral nutrition I think it is called), this may seem a big step to take but some people really find that they do well on this as it really gives the bowel a chance to settle down a bit, for some it can even be as useful as taking the steroids...... With regards to the 'near obstruction' what tests have been done since the ER visit to check what is happening inside? Has this now gone or is the narrowing still present?

I do hope you can feel better soon and I am pleased you have decided to join us :)
