Man United Midfielder diagnosed with UC

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

it was widely reported on the scottish news tonight. Yip, he will be missed by scotland and man utd while he's out the team. Good luck to him hope he's back soon.

Gutted for him, there's been reports/rumours of him having an illness like this for a while now, It's been reported about on the local news tonight but I don't think they went into too much detail and asked that his privacy be respected which is fair enough, I'm just astounded that he has managed to cope with it for so long as well as he has and managed to play at the top level of football. Must have completely taken it out of him and it seems a good decision to give his career a break so he can recover. Hopefully he can get on top of things and come back playing at the top again.

The scottish media (BBC News Scotland) went into specifics, detailing chronic IBD, UC, also interviewing a consultant from the royal infirmary in Glasgow about the condition and how its treated. Finished off by saying its for life but not life threatening.

Certainly helped put it out into the public forum.

I know he will be back, he's scottish and will have the Robert the Bruce spirit (if at first you don't succeed etc), but it must have been a struggle to play and train during the diagnosis period. He is a really good player and is a very determind character. I'm sure the club will give him all the support he needs and he will be back better than ever. I know everybody is different, but I hope he can take some inspiration from steve redgrave who managed to get back to the top of his sport.

Good luck Darren
