I need some assistance. I am having a hard time explaining to my GI that soy bothers my Crohn's Disease. Back in Basic Training during an FTX, the only food I ate was the MRE's provided. MREs are primarily soy based to preserve them. A week after leaving the field, all my problems started. Blood loss from a bowel movement after a week of constipation. If there are any doctors in this forum that can help me with a list of foods I should avoid, I would be greatful.

Hi danieldresen so sorry for the late reply. I have not been in the military so I'm not aware of the options available or if your GI can help make it so you can get a special diet. I'm concerned with the blood loss and constipation though. Are you on any kind of treatment for your Crohn's? Has your GI mentioned doing anything to stop the bleeding and constipation? How are you feeling now?

The forum doesn't really have a lot of doctors and most tend to stay in hiding about their profession to avoid floods of questions and other issues. All we can provide is information and support. However when it comes to diet everyone is different. For instance for you soy appears to be an issue (although I wonder if there may be another ingredient that's bothering you) yet I and many others do not have problems with soy products. Generally during a flare avoiding our trigger foods helps to reduce symptoms yet in the military, as I mentioned I'm not sure what your options are. Do you know if its possible to have something other than the MREs?

I'm going to try and tag Manzyb as I believe her husband was in the military and might have an idea of what your options are and if not maybe she might know of another member who served in the military and can tag them. :)
