I used to use marijuana in the past before I was diagnosed with crohn's. I had several flares but none of them serous at all, just some minor passing of blood. It was not until I stopped using marijuana (due to relocating) that I had my next flare and first flare while not using cannabis(around 10 months ago). My symptoms where very severe and I knew something was seriously wrong. I ended up in hospital for around 2 months and lost a huge amount of weight.I was in massive pain especially when on the toilet (which was pretty much all the time lol) The surgeons wanted to remove my lower intestines and bowel as a precaution because they said i was too close to a rupture, but I really was struggling with the idea of that. In the end the steroids finally started to work and then they switched me to 6mp. The 6mp (or the sulfasalazine?) gives me nasty headaches daily and generally makes me feel lethargic. I am currently having my second flare that has just started last week. I hope this time around the prednisone and 6mp are more effective as the 6mp has had time to build up in my system. But I do often wonder if it was just co-incidence that while using marijuana all of my flares were so mild I barely noticed them? I still do not use it as it is not allowed here by our government. Its a shame to think they could repress something that might actually help with a lot of peoples suffering..

After my first surgery I asked my surgeon about mm. She said she had a male patient that used mm and didn't need surgery for 10 years after his last surgery. Everyone is different but even my surgeon sees the benefits of mm. I've been using mm for two years since my first surgery and sometimes you feel not so great but that's the only medication I feel comfortable taking.

It's amazing how many people in the last two months have suggested MM for Crohns and arthritis. Mine is so bad at the moment, I cant only lay down. My hips and all lower leg joints are excruciating very still swollen and soooo painful. I also have the old abdominal cramps; I also have crohns in the mouth, throat, stomach and duodenal ulcers. I wonder if I should try it. I could do with a 10 year remission, lol.

mm the best medicine in the world! to me! symptoms of crohns since age 4.36 now. smoking mm or reg weed on and off since 13. the off times severe flares to almost death. only surgery gull bladder removed. dx in 97. i have severe crohns and allergic to most crohns meds. i have arthrtitis, osteoperosis, scholiosis, migranes, disc degen with stenosis, asthma, anxiety, insomnia at times, then theres crohns with all its glory. i use mm to treat it all and i can function ,also use diet and exercise. when i dont and cant have it due to location all of that hits me im very angry its illegal!starting to write reps of my state. i have more illnesses too. so sad money gets in the way of peoples health!

YEa I feel your pain Plantlver, I'm in Australia and there is pretty much no way our government will ever legalize it ever even just for medicine. It really doesn't help when high profile doctors and heads of medical departments here say things like "There is very little benefits of MM to be had for patients and the risk to the community far outweighs the potential benefits of MM" I have to wonder if these doctors are reading the same studies and reports that seem to be everywhere on the internet claiming that MM has numerous benefits for many different conditions. Seems like they are being told to say these things. I really think it doesn't come down to the science of it at all, and it is more about politics and corporate gain then anything else. A sad world we live in..

No, it wasn't a coincidence at all. Your chronic cannabis use treated your colitis without you knowing it.

The science of cannabinoids is conclusive and there is no doubt they help. It's a fact.
It will take years before the results of the clinical trials we sew now trickle down the chain and doctors get properly informed.

We're still a long way from using cannabis as a viable treatment though. In the mean time however, if you can use it again, do so. It will help for sure and may even induce remission alongside the 6MP.

I've been using CBD oil for about a month now and noticed a major difference. I started taking it after finishing a round of Prednisone for inflammation. The Prednisone left me feeling "edgy" and I was afraid that my condition was getting worse. The CBD removed the "edgy" feeling and calmed my system. The CBD is legal to buy(expensive) but it is working for me.

Can I ask what is CBD? do you smoke it or is it oil? Can it be bought in Britain? Glad you are better. I seriously need to consider this option. thanks

CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol. It is a component of marijuana and hemp. There is a difference between the two however many legal authorities don't make the distinction. Do some research on the subject and start with this site: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Md2WNqqxTQ

I use Cibdex CBD drops. The peppermint is very tasty. Hope this helps.
