Has anyone been prescribed medical marijuana by their doctors in the UK? Most of the posts on this forum seem to be from the US or Canada....

I am also searching for answers to this, as getting it illegally isn't ideal and it is, well, illegal.

From what I can find, your specialist or GP can not provide a prescription. If you are referred to a pain clinic, they can.

I've seen some news articles and such that suggest if you have it in writing from your doctors that you have a medical necessity to have it, then your court case will be dropped, but to go through the whole situation to get to that point is a bad silly.

Basically it depends on how willing the specialists and GPs are with referring you to a pain clinic, when I got to the point of throwing up so much I tore a muscle in my stomach that still didn't get me sent there, so I'm guessing IBD is not in the pain club as far as doctors are concerned.

Who knows, I'm going to be having a talk with my doctor in March about it, since it really does help me.

Thanks for the response.
I see... well pain isn't a major symptom for me, the others are a lot worse, so i guess there's no chance of me getting a prescription. Strange how its so much easier to get in in the US than it is over here, despite findings that it helps a lot. The doctors over here are running out of medical options for me, yet its not been suggested once....

Also, if you don't mind me asking; how long do you feel symptomless for after you take marijuana?

Errr me personally it's a bit wierd, it more shifts the symptoms to less extreme ones. I guess since I smoke it with tobacco maybe?

Like, I'll regain my appetite, and any cramps and pains will be reduced/removed, but it makes me guts grumble a whole lot and gets me a bit bloated, but no pain and my bowel movements are less horrid.

But if I do this say, at 5PM ish it'll keep be going until I head to bed at midnight or whatever on just a joint or two.

I must admit I know nothing about marijuana, other than I've heard the oil could heal the gut lining from some reports, although no doctor wants to tell me its good. But are you not able to consume the good stuff in it, in any other way than smoking? I was always told the worst thing you could do to your Crohns was to smoke.

Indeed smoking is the worse consumption method. Vaporizing will at least spare your lungs, but to treat Crohn's or UC, ingestion is by far the preferred and most efficient method.

If you ingest, the relief won't be felt for an hour or two, which is why eating cannabis is regarded as a long-term treatment. Smoking or vaporizing provides instantaneous relief of symptoms but won't be as efficient at treatment the disease long-term.

Personally, I ingest a daily dose before bed, and use vaporizing on-demand whenever I have pain, cramps, etc.
