Hello everyone! was just curious for some recommendations for medications for my constant diarrhea? Doctor started treating me on Jan 12 for SUGGESTIVE Crohn's Disease and I have been taking Pentasa since then 4000mg a day and I am still constantly going to the bathroom. It takes only minutes after I eat. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Loperomide (immodium) is good. Questran is also good - in the Uk it is available by prescription only. Psyllium husks work well for some (health food shops). I also avoid too much fat and dairy. Everyone is different but anyhow this may help.

thank you for your help! i will pick some up tonight....i am just so tired of sitting in the bathroom:yfrown: and yet not knowing what is wrong with me

If Imodium doesn't work for you, you might want to ask your doc about Lomotil. Imodium does nothing for me, Lomotil is kind of like prescription-strength Imodium and that does work for me. One pill of Lomotil stops the d for about one full day.

In the meantime, you could also try to see if certain foods help. In the past, I've been advised that foods like applesauce and bananas are known to help slow down the flow of d. I think peppermint has a similar effect - I drink peppermint tea and you can also get peppermint supplements. I don't think multi-vitamins will do much to stop the d, but if you're having a lot of d you may be deficient in certain vitamins so a multi-vit certainly can't hurt.

thank you for that information.... although applesauce slows d????? lol i think it makes it worse. but then again everyone is different. when i was pregnant 3 years ago taking pre-natal viatmins, i was constipated due to the iron in the pills, that why my thoughts to a multi-vitamin may help some! either way, it wont hurt to take like you said. I am a very picky eater, and not all foods are healthy for me. so this is where i shall start. multi-vitamin and immodium here i come!

Ha ha, I personally hate applesauce and anything made with apples so I wouldn't know, but that was what I was told by someone else on here. I do like bananas and they do seem to help slow things down a bit. When I'm having d I try to stick to the low residue diet and that seems to help too. Good luck with the vitamins and Imodium, let us know how it goes!

I take questran, works very well most days. In Australia it is only available by prescription. Bannanas are good for helping with stopping the d's - not sure if it is due to their potassium but have read that it works. I can usually tolerate bananas no worries.
