Hi, feeling fed up today so thought I would post and see if I could get some advice. My son has been symptom free since last year August and still seems "Crohn's symptom free", but he has developed an absess on his buttock which won't go away. There is no fistula to be seen and I really think it's just bad luck.
However they have put him on 2 different antibiotics and in the last couple of days has said his chest hurts especially when drinking (however not all the time). I think the antibiotics are causing problems themselves and so far don't seem to be doing much for the absess.
Does any one know of a good way to treat an absess that doesn't involve oral antibiotics. Worried they are going to cause a relapse of the tummy pains or bad thrush.

Hi Sascot
Did the doctor drain the abscess?
It may not get better till this is done.
Antibiotics are not likely to work properly without this drainage.
It is possible that the antibiotics may be causing a gastric problem.
Best to seek some medical advice from your GI soon
I would not let this continue without further clinical advice
Feel better soon.\Trysha

Thanks for that. I have mentioned draining it to the doctor and paediatrician but they look at me like I don't know what I'm talking about. My mother who was a GP can't believe they didn't do it a couple weeks ago. Back to the GI clinic today so hopefully some answers

Hey sascot, sorry to hear yr son has developed an abcess. Our Kian also developed one last year but the flagyl and cipro did clear it up, kian felt sick on one of them, cant remember which one it was and his appetite went, was awful. how long has he been on the medicine for the abcess? hope it disappears soon. take care. xx

Thanks for that. We are on the cipro and flagyl for 6 weeks. Feeling a bit better today - had a meeting with the gastro specialist, IBD nurse, paediatrician and community nurse! Poor boy - all those people loooking at his bottom!!
We are to keep on the two antibiotics, if no improvement in 2 weeks then a consult with a surgeon at the kids hospital and to have an MRI by the end of March.
I have to say the only bright side to the Crohn's diagnosis is having all these specialists "on call". They have been very good.

I agree its such a shame, when we take kian for his checks they always check his bum, he expects it now, bless him! yes they are a great team, defo on the ball. good luck with it all n hope the meds works. x

Good luck hun! I hope the antibiotics work for your boy, bless him...

Please let us know how he gets on.

Dusty. xxx
