I've always been very sensitive to nickel. But, have been able to wear gold earrings as well as those that they pierce your ears with. I just received some white gold earrings for my birthday from my folks. I've never worn white gold and am wondering if any of you do well with this? Or, has it caused you to break out?

I'd like to see what your experiences are before I try them out for myself. Thank you:)

Well...
I think I might try to talk to my friend at work who is the manager in a jewelry store inside my department store. Maybe he'll have some ideas before I contact my parents. Sad part is that these earrings are really pretty! It'd be a big shame not to be able to wear them and have to get theme exchanged. :(

It really depends on the alloy. Essentially, white gold is a mix of gold with another metal to "bleach" the yellow original color of gold. Often, the alloy contains nickel as it is cheaper than palladium but sometimes it can be iron or silver. I don't know if the jewelry store can clearly tell you if there is or isn't nickel in your alloy though.

Other possibility is to get your jewel coated with a metal you wont react to where it touched the skin. I know this is common with rings but I don't know when it comes to earrings if that's a possibility.

Also, I have a tendency to react to a lot of jewels but I don't seem to react to my white gold ring. Is it that I got a good alloy? That, I don't know...

I work for Fred Meyer which is owned by Kroger. My friend that I talked to works in Fred Meyer Jewelers which is also owned by Kroger and this actual dept is located directly in my store.

My friend said that the white gold they carry no longer has nickel in it. They stopped making the white gold with nickel in the 90's (I believe). You are correct, they are made with different alloys. But, supposedly unless I'm allergic to the alloys I should be fine...

I wore them to work yesterday and had them in all day. I'm excited to say that I had no problems while wearing these earrings!!!!

Glad to be able to keep and wear them rather than needing to get them returned or exchanged. Just thought you guys would like to hear the update! :)
