Methotrexate injections

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry if there is already a thread about this but I was just wondering how people have found the methotrexate injections? I've been taking asacol for a while to try and treat my Crohn's disease but unfortuntely it hasn't helped me (if anything I'm feeling worse) so my consultant is going to start me on the injections for a few months and then the tablet form. The other option was surgery but I think I would prefer to see how I get on with this first. I just worry I'm going to get horrible side effects with it and it might effect my work.

I understand everyone is different, but I would really appreciate anyone's advice/experience with it thanks x

I am curious as well. My GI wants to start me on Cimzia plus methotrexate.

It does seems that everyone reacts differently. My son has weekly mtx injections and didn't have any side effects to begin with. Now he feels nauseous and tired for about 48 hours after injecting. Even the thought of mtx can make him feel sick at times. He injects on a Friday evening so that he has the weekend to get over it. Good luck!

I have been on methotrexate injections for about 4 months now. 15mg.

The injections themselves are pretty easy. I use a 27g 1/2 inch needle. The needle hurts very little. For a while I had dizziness the day after but that has pretty much gone away. I still however get nausea after the injection which sucks but I take a gravel and it's gone in an hour or two.

For me it works mostly. I am also on Remicade and needed something to add on to it. It has reduced my symptoms though not totally.

ive been on MTX 20mg injections for about a year. Unfortunately, failure for me at month 10 when disease started again. Wish I had tried 25 mg (max dose) when flare was coming back. No side effect at all though. no complain.
injections are favored over the pill version in the case of an IBD. the medication is better absorbed that way for us. good luck.

Sorry its taken me a while to reply. Thank you for all your comments I really appreciate it. Just waiting for my blood test results which I should get this week and then will be starting on it. Really hoping this one works for me!
