Has anyone been put on mezavant before? If so how did it work for you? any side effects?

my GI just started me on 4 - 1.2G pills of mezavant a day.

Hi there,
Just noticed this thread (sorry for the delay in replying). My Gastro changed my Asacol to Mesavent XL back in May. I was also put on a daily dose of 4.8g, but couldn't tolerate them at all. Managed a week and then they were stopped. Mesavent is also another form of Mesalazine. It's a newer tablet and is a slow release form of the drug that targets the whole colon (from what my Gastro advised). I had no problems at all with Asacol, having taken it for over 10 years, but for some reason, this tablet made my joints swell, and gave me flu like symptoms.
Hope that they are working well for you,
Andrea

Hi, I also am on Mezavant. After a close call with Sulfasalazine (turns out, I'm deathly allergic to Sulfa), my GI put me on 4 pills of Mezavant a day. Shortly after taking it, I noticed incredible joint pain and fatigue. I talked to my GI about it, thinking it was a side effect of the Mezavant, and he explained that the Sulfa was still in my system and would take a while to clear up. It's been over 3 months since the Sulfa reaction fully broke out and just now I am feeling so much better. I am getting close to remission now :)
Just remember that everyone reacts differently to medication. Mezavant just happened to work for me. Hopefully you get similar results. All the best.
