I'm LOVE milk but after my second surgery am starting to take my diet more seriously and want to experiment by removing milk from my diet.

So far, I've tried almond milk, but not too excited about it.

Are there any milk addicts out there that have found a good alternative?

Are you lactose intolerant? Do you notice milk actually causing symptoms? If not then I don't see a reason to quit. Honestly nothing tastes the same. I was given Lactaid as a kid since I'm actually lactose intolerant yet to me it tasted like melted watered down whipped cream. Not bad but not milk either. :/ You could give it and soy milk a try.

I am sensitive to milk - lots of gas and loose stool. I am using Silk vanilla and love it! No upset belly or gas at all! I am ok with other milk based products like cottage cheese or yogurt. The cottage cheese I use is called “Farmers cheese” made by Friendship. It has virtually no lactose and SCD compliant. I eat it with a little agave nectar. The yogurt I use is Icelandic yogurt Skyr from Whole Foods. It’s a actually a very soft, low-fat cheese.

I use rice milk, a brand called Rice Dream. It has a slightly thinner consistency than milk (maybe on par with fully skimmed milk) but it has quite a milky taste, I really like it. There's also soya milk, though I much prefer rice milk.

Hi, I'm Lactose intolerant and can get milk,ice-cream & yogurt lactose free. Sorry but the milk tastes watery. Ice-cream & yogurt good. Chocolate is really the worst one for me & nothing tastes as good as the real thing !!

Coconut milk with vanilla is alright. Not a total favorite of mine though. I guess that I've gotten used to lactaid milk though. I can have ice cream that's reduced fat or 1/2 fat. But, I also take this stuff called: Digestive Advantage for Lactose Intolerance. These pills seem to work better for me than the lactaid pills.

I'm vegan anyway, was long before I was diagnosed, and my favourite non-dairy milk is probably almond. It's really creamy and lovely, and almonds are great for you anyway. After a while you get to the point where you forget what dairy milk tasted like. I now don't notice that I'm not drinking cow's milk, even in things like lattes, where it's pretty milky.

Personally I love almond milk, but some other good alternatives (as others above me have mentioned) are soy milk, rice milk, and coconut milk. Maybe you can try a different kind each week to get some variety in and also see which you like best.

The problem with some milk alternatives on the market is that they contain a lot of additives and preservatives. Make sure you check the labels and avoid anything with carrageenan- it is known to exacerbate IBD symptoms. Soy can be very problematic for a lot of people. I would avoid that one if possible.

I use coconut milk and I think it's a great substitute. I am a former milk addict and I used to get cravings SO bad. Looking back now, I'm sure that was a sign that milk wasn't doing anything good for me. Your body often craves the things that are bad for you and I discovered that I'm lactose intolerant. Because a lot of coconut milk that comes in cartons contains carrageenan, I buy a Trader Joe's brand that comes in a can. It has no preservative or additives and it's the only coconut milk that I've been able to find that is allowed on my diet.

Most almond milks have thickener in them that makes them gloppy. I like Almond Breeze unsweetened (unthickened lol) Almond Milk. It tastes the most like cow's milk to me.
