Milk and Lactose

i/m not sure on the exact chemicals in milk that affects me, but since i went off it i feel so much better!!! Ive tried lactofree milk and i seem to be ok with that although i tend to just avoid it all....

Generally it is the lactose, a lot of people find it hard to digest. I'm okay with it, but when I'm flaring I try to avoid it just to be on the safe side.

Sometimes it is the lactose, but there are also proteins in the milk which can affect people (casein), and dairy foods are classed as high residue because they increase bowel activity. So it could be any of those!

I am not a huge dairy fiend but I do like cheese sometimes so whenever I have I'll pop a lactase pill or two. They seem to help but then it's hard to say since pain is pretty much a given regardless of what I eat. I do quite like the taste of goat's milk though it is quite expensive. Almond milk isn't bad either and same for soy. They all take but a few days and a chance to get used to. It's much easier to say and practice the "I don't like it" mentality than the "I'll give it a chance" mentality..

I found that even when I eat dairy with lactase, the next day I end up in the bathroom a lot more and I find an increase in mucous. I've decided just to skip it altogether to be on the safe side.

Milk

It is possible that the lactose is intolerable but it could also be the hormones in pasteurized conventional milk. So milk is not the best choice for Crohn's. Unless it is raw milk, and not for everyone either.

I'm fine when I drink milk but I drink organic which might make a difference. I hate paying for it though $8 instead of $3 for a 4L :(

I generally have some pain in the morning after breakfast which per my routine has consisted of a cheese omelette, waffle, and piece of banana. I take 2 lactase pills before the omelette because of the cheese. Today I forgot to take the pills, and within 5 minutes of eating the omelette, I was throwing up and in a lot of pain. Would this be a fair indicator of either lactose or dairy intolerance or could it be a fluke? I've been feeling pretty crappy all day today since the incident.

I have found Almond Milk to be my favorite "to drink" milk. And I was really surprised to learn that Skim Milk has a higher content of Lactose then 2%. There are creative alternatives out there, currently I am experimenting with goat cheese. I read several places some interesting info on it, and it doesn't appear to be bothering me...

I'm lucky. I don't have an issue with it, my girlfriend has an allergy to a protein or enzyme in that and beef, and because it's not the lactose lactaid doesn't help her. She's not so bad with dairy products any more but beef causes her some issues. She finds the thought f drinking milk repulsive, which means I'm never going to be surprised if there's no milk. I drink a litre or so again.

I have no issues with milk products or corn products but I have major problems with wheat...which sucks! But I am posting on here because the LOW RES diet sheet I got from the hospital nutritionist when I was released said that I COULD EAT any diary products as long as I was not lactose intolerant and of course in moderation.

I'm similar to what Nicci described above - I've been lactose intolerant for over 10 years, and even if I take Lactaid tablets when I eat dairy, it still affects me in the form of d and pain. So I avoid cows' dairy altogether. I prefer almond milk, goat or sheep cheeses, and coconut milk yogurt.

Oh cat and your from Wisconsin....ah...the cheese capital of the US. Actually I have been drinking soy juice for years now, Silk brand..and I love it. But I must admit i LOVE CHEESE! And since I found out I am allergic to wheat I have been very much like the character Gollum in the Lord of the Rings in the way he is with his precious...with my precious foods...lol.
