I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post this in, but though I would share this advice for anyone that has to have colonoscopies.

As we all know, the worst part of the "procedure" is actually the prep, as you are (or should be) under anesthesia for the actual procedure. Having had more colonoscopies that I care to remember, and by several GI doctors due to relocation because of my dad's career, I have used several prep methods, and I've found the one that works for me as far as taste is Miralax. Basically you mix the powder with a 64 ounce Gatorade (not red or purple), and I could not even taste that the Miralax was in the Gatorade. If you can, chill the Gatorade and Miralax solution overnight, as the documents I received from my GI say it tastes better if it is chilled.

Albeit I still threw up a little after drinking a good portion of the Miralax, but I was having clear stools, so my GI said that wasn't a huge issue.

Yeah, I had that prep one time too. It was preceded by 2 dolcolax tablets first. The taste is fine, but the liquid is just a bit thicker. WAY better than those salty preps. The only problem with that one for me was that it kept me up all night running to the toilet. The other preps worked quickly, but the Miralax seemed to take forever.

I just had a sigmoidoscopy on Friday, and the prep for that was a 10 oz. bottle of citrate of magnesia. It was like a very sour sparkling lime juice. Not salty at all. The best part was that it was only a small amount to drinnk. I only ate a miffin for lunch that day, and did the prep for dinner (They said I could eat dinner and then do the prep an hour later - why bother shooting food through me that fast.) I was running yellow soon, it really cleared me out.

I would so rather do either one of those than the GoLytley I had to do before...was like drinking salt water!

Ya so far I like the phospha soda prep (though I don't do the enema at the end.) I take the phospha like a shot and use a chaser. Easy peasy.

I love Miralax treatment. I drank a glass every 20 minutes for about 2 hours and that cleared me up pretty quickly. I was in the hospital that time and they had me take a glass of miralax every hour after four another 3 hours. It worked great. I think I may have had one of the largest craps ever, I could tell you the size but I don't think anyone would believe it.lol

I don't know maybe I have had to prep too many times for different things but I hate them all I always end up throwing up. Actually I'm a little nauseated right now thinking about it.

one word still chills me to the bone.....picolax! have had it twice, the second time i mixed it with blackcurrant squash and havent had any liquid that tastes remotley like that again....too many bad memories!

Tell me about it-got a colonoscopy on Tuesday-got to have that lovely stuff again, cant wait lol I usually just drink it down in water as fast as possible

Is Picolax the UK's laxative of choice or something? I had that when I had a barium enema x-ray a few months ago... it didn't work very well... seem to have a bit of a build up in the first part of my large bowel (which is where most of my problems are). They almost accused me of not doing all the prep properly (although I followed the instructions religiously)... so I had to go through the whole *&%$£%$ ordeal again a month later!
It seems maybe if one thing doesn't work very well they should try something different!

Same thing happened to me, basically told me off and said i didnt do prep properly although I followed the instructions perfectly. They didnt seem to grasp that why would i want to do the prep wrong on purpose so that id have to come and do it all again? On a side note id love to know how many people who work doing colonoscopies have actually had one-it would make them a lot better at patient care if they had

My GI has had them and the nurse I had, had 3 of them. But much easier to judge when you are on the other side :)

Yeah, teeny5, the GoLytely prep was HORRIBLE, and that had to be the worst prep method that I've done. I still think though, that I have yet to not throw up doing a prep method.

GoLytely was some of the worst stuff ive ever had I wanted to throw up every time but feeling was shortly followed with my bowels being lit aflame either way it was a hard 24 hours
