Hi all

I used to smoke weed as a social thing when I was younger like most people my age (38) and really enjoyed it.

Anyways I have had Crohns since 2010, had a resection in July 2012.
Had a recent colonoscopy as I was having some pain again and sure enough the dreaded crohns is back. Only got 12 months of relieve 

So my GI is looking at starting me on Azathioprine, I have only ever been on Pentasa and Budesonide so unsure of how I will react to the aza. I am not bothered about trying these but I was would like to try MM. I was looking at a vaporizer as I don’t want to start smoking again (it was tough enough to give up last time..almost 8 years ago….yippyy for me!!)

So I have a few question I hope you good people could help me with?

1) Will I be ok to try the MM route even if I have started the Aza? Or would you suggest I hold off on the Aza and just try the MM first?

2) Living in the UK, there is no available MM, it is just the stuff off the streets (which is great to get you wasted) but I am unsure of the medicinal properties of such product

3) Would I be better off trying to grow my own MM

4) I would prefer to avoid the complete stoned/wasted high as I have 2 young sons who demand lots of interaction. I don’t want to be a stoned mong on the sofa –what would be your advice?

5) What about the paranoia? I do suffer slightly with anxiety (as do many with Crohns) would this be an issue?

I know it is all a bit vague but hopefully some of my questions make sense.

Thanks

High potency cannabinoid strains with less THC will help with the high. Sometimes I'll vaporize and stay under the heat threshold of THC vapor for this very reason. Camomile/peppermint also vaporize nicely with it. Even a tea is great.

With your situation I can't advise stopping the Aza and going straight into MM. I have had success with MM and diet so if you are confident by all means try it.

My question to you is, what type of paranoia? I have had my moments. Although with the right mindset and setting you will be fine.

Just a slight correction, Volcano. I think you're referring to high-"cannabidiol" strains (aka CBD). Most of the active chemicals in cannabis are under the blanket term "cannabinoids", THC included.

But you're right, studies show that these strains do tend to be better, but they're a little harder to come by in states where MMJ isn't available.

One suggestion would be to make your own edibles, as that's sending the active chemicals in cannabis directly to the problematic area, your digestive tract, and bypassing the whole lung>bloodstream process.

But remember, with edibles: a little goes a long way. And I mean that. Start small and work your way up. Eating too much can mean feeling high for the next 6 - 8 hours.

I dunno, if you don't have access to medical strains and are only able to get whatever you can off the street then I don't recommend it (when choosing from that or a medication that may actually help you). If its not legal to grow and you have children to care for, again I don't recommend it.

As for the paranoia, that's a very personal thing. For me I do have a panic disorder and any sort of drug (even alcohol and certain pain meds) that starts to make me feel "weird" suddenly starts to make me really nervous and has sent me into a full panic attack. You may want to see a therapist for the anxiety as it does help (it helped me anyway) by giving you different kinds of tools to help control the anxiety to either avoid a panic attack or help you work you're way through one or just help with general anxiety.

As far as Aza in combination with Marijuana (I'm not calling it medical Marijuana as you don't have access to any) I haven't heard anything about not being able to use them together. I used to smoke marijuana when I was younger and was taking 6MP (similar to Aza) at the time and never had any issues but my personal experience doesn't mean that anyone else may not have issues.

Given your concerns about the strains available to you not being ideal, having children to care for and the fact that its not legal, those issues alone would make me choose to try the Aza first. No matter what you choose I hope you start feeling better soon and go back into remission. :)

:luigi:Thanks for all your help guys.

I will take on all your comments.

I will continue with the GI's plan and start tge Aza neext week when I have a foloow up appointment with him.

As for the weed, I think I will look into a vapourizer and do some more homework.

I actually quite like the idea of getting stoned once and while to relax, my axienty is only very mild and very much related to my stress levels (which I am sure is linked to my Crohns) So a little help relaxing might be good and imo I would rather to it by means of a home grown plant over a pharma chemical product.:luigi:

I am a regular marijuana smoker and have been for about 7 years. I had my first flare and was diagnosed with CD 2.5 months ago. I firmly believe that if I had not been a regular smoker my disease would have caught up with me at an earlier age. I had actually cut back way back when my first flare started. Over the years there had been several instances where I had been sick for a week or more with what I thought was a stomach virus, but would just smoke weed, drink water, and eat chicken broth until it went away. I am now thinking I was having crohn's symptoms and the MM was keeping it in check.

Anyways, since being diagnosed I have been smoking more than ever and it is the only thing that brings true relief to my crohn's pain and arthritis pain. I live in an area where it is not only illegal for medical use, but the cops around here pretty much go on witch hunts trying to bust people for any amount of pot, any way they can. So I definitely feel your pain as far as worrying about the law. And my doc just prescribed me to 6-mp so I can def relate to worrying about side effects and whatnot. I have decided not to take the 6-mp and try MM, Diet, and Probiotics.

Now as far as getting pot off the street for medical use, it helps to know what you are looking for, ie smells, appearance, density, freshness, trichromes, color, etc. You can def get good medical quality off the street, but it is def still somewhat of a gamble. If you are caught growing where I live, its an automatic felony and jail time.
