So, thats Kian been on flagyl for around 6 weeks now, takes 5ml 3x daily. His bowel movements were normal before he had to go on it after having a procedure done for the fissure. no more blood now when wiping and its healing great but hes gone from maybe pooing once a day or every 2nd day to twice a day. its not diarhoea but its soft. Im thinking maybe i could give him the flagyl twice a day rather than 3x. would it be safe just to reduce it or should i call his ibd nurse to ask. xx

always ask doc to be sure you are doing what is right for his condition. Never hurts to ask, but glad to hear things are better!

You should check with the doc.

Diarrhea is one possible side effect but if he's just having 2 loose stools a day then I wouldn't be concerned.

Most drugs, including antibiotics, have a period of time when they are most active in our bodies. With antibiotics it can be especially important to give them at the times prescribed so that there aren't any "gaps" between doses that give the germs time to grow again.

It will depend on the formulation of Flagyl that you are using how often it needs to be given.

Like I said, you could let them know about the loose stools but unless it's a really big problem, causing cramping, bleeding, etc. then the current dosing and schedule will need to stay the same.

Best to talk with the doc before changing anything.

Im just going to stick with the 3x a day as i would hate for him to get an infection now that its healing good. Im also thinking it could be the whole milk i started giving him as its normally semi skimmed. Hid ibd nurse said to heal quick they recommend full milk, butter etc so thats what i done. I give him actimel every morning which is a probiotic drink, i did change brand but im going to go back to what i know. Its all trial and error sometimes isnt it. xx
