My GP just put me on this for nausea. I hate taking new medications! I was wondering if anyone else has had this and if it worked or not. Try not to scare me with bad experiences though please!

Also, I don't quite understand how I am supposed to take it. I have to take 3 tablets a day on an empty stomach. But when do I have an empty stomach? I am on the constipation side of things, so surely i'm always full if I don't have a BM? And I feel nauseas when i've eaten, so why wait until i've not eaten to take it when I don't even feel nauseas if i've not eaten?

I have no personal experience with Domperidone but I do administer it to other people and what they mean by taking it on an empty stomach is to have it half an hour before meals. The idea being that when you do eat you won't have the nausea and/or vomiting that may accompany it.

I take it regularly - generally an hour before a meal. So that after I eat and the food goes in to my stomach and I get an inbalance in my stomach acids and start to feel sick - the drug is already in my bloods/body and can counter this feeling. It does work well for me. Good luck

Thank you DustyKat and Aura.

Sawdust, I don't think so. I just got angry when I went to the doctors today and demanded they give me something whilst I am undiagnosed. She told me to just get on with my life as I am but after getting angry she gave me this medication and ibuprofen.

i am think about changing from reglan to domperidone (which is not sold in the US FYI). do either of you have gastroparisis?
domperidone is the safer of the two is all i know since it doesn't cross the blood brain barrier.

Hi I dont have gastroparisis - but I did have GERD and LERD. I had a nissen fundoplication late last year to wrap my stomach around my esophagus and fix my hernia. I cough to vomit now when I am on antibiotics and have sinus infections and I used to get nausea on the methotrexate. Now I have shifted to aza - no nausea as yet.

I do not have Crohn's (my son does) but I do have GERD. I take pantoprazole daily and when things get really bad I take domperidone (Motlilium). For me domperidone is a magic pill and gets rid of my GERD symptoms FAST. I have always taken it to treat my GERD symptoms once they have started, which for me means I usually end up taking it in the evening after dinner. I have never had any side effects from taking it.

I'm so confused as to what GERD and LERD and how they are related to IBD. I'm off to do some research now!

my GERD (heartburn) lead to my diagnoses with crohn's but i don't think there is a real link beyond, when things go wrong in the gi track, things really go wrong

what's LERD?
do you find domperidone helps with your GERD?

Nah the only thing that worked for my LERD and GERD Reflux disease in the larynx or esophagus - was surgery. I had the nissen fundoplication that has worked very well for me

I took Motilium last night before bed - no symptoms and it helped my nausea... but not the pain obviously.

If it works for the nausea then that is a good start and the next thing to manage will be the pain. There are some good threads on this forum that discuss pain management. My cramping bowel pains and waves of pain are managed with buscopan 2 tabs three times a day. In addition to this I take lactulose syrup to soften stools so that they can pass through my bowels easier as I have an active flare of CD at the moment. Keep doing some more research on the forum so that you can have a good discussion with the doc on your next visit

I've tried buscopan, but I was allergic to that. I take lactulose sometimes when I really need it - I should really take it regularly *slaps own hand* and I've tried gavascon before, but that didn't help either.

But the motilium has been helped and now i'm on amitripyt... gosh I can't remember how to spell that word, but it's in my sig.
