Ok so I went ahead and the doc ordered a colonoscopy. It was done today and at first sight, there was no indication of IBD, but the analisys of the biopsies are not in yet.
I had to take this disgusting thing named MoviPrep to empty the gut.
I took the first dose yesterday (1 litre, or 0.22 US gallon) at 5.30 pm and only started to get diahrea after 2 hours.
Then, this morning at 9 am, I had to take the second dose: another litre (or 0.22 US gallon).
The colonoscopy went just fine, but now it's 11 pm, and I'm still having diahrea. It's not as frequent as this morning where I had to go like every 30 minutes, but it's still pretty frequent and watery. It feels like if I have stomach flu when I don't.

Is it normal for this laxative to take so much time to wear off? The doc says it can continue to give me diahrea for a day or two, but it seems kinda odd no?
Any info?

PS: I have never taken laxatives before.

Yeah that would be the same for me, I wouldn't worry it will soon stop. Im doin mine tomorrow as Im goin in on friday morning, not looking forward to it but i can only hope they find the cause.

Have you eaten at all? As soon as my colonoscopy was over I ate normally, with plenty of bran cereal added in for good measure. The bran helps to soak up water from the stool and bulk it out, and helps you get back to normal quicker.

Hey all,
Thanks for replying. Eating something did help as my bowels are much more normal now. Still not 100% but not really that annoying neither.
I have sensitive guts... so I guess it's normal my gut is still a bit irritated from the whole thing.

Tomorrow you will be back to normal. I have had many colonoscopies with my Crohns disease. It is just a bit of concern but mostly some discomfort going on.

Yeah it's defenitely going better, but I still have loads of gas buildups and I defenitely feel my colon cramping up quite often.
The doctor said it's no cause for concern since the gut can take a few weeks to totally recover from a colonoscopy sometimes plus the fact that the gut flora gets damaged as well.

Is that indeed so?

Just finished my movihell- i mean moviprep.

My 5th colonoscopy is due at 8:30 tomorrrow morning & that prep never gets easier blugh!! I could really murder a cup of tea & toast right now. Had total food envy watching hubby & kids scoffing their dinner! you'd think i haven't eaten for a week..... the joys of Crohn's & colitis eh? :)

Aw thanks 2thfairy- the prep is actually worse than the colonoscopy in my opinion but i'll be durned glad when its all over. Off i sprint to the bathroooooom!!

Hi all just an update- colonoscopy went well- painful but well. They have found active disease near the resection site which explains all my symptoms- pain, exhaustion etc.sooooo off to my specialist i will go & see which hideous medication they will try next yay!! Now im off to eat lots of food i shouldnt ( could eat a scabby horse at the minute!!) :) tata for now

Yeah MoviPrep was by far the worst part.
I'm glad to hear you're done with it. I hope they'll soon find the meds that suit you best.

I did picoprep and it was horrendous! Plus a litre of the salt water solution stuff... The picoprep was quite harsh on the stomach and due to have a completely ulcerated small intestine it hurt like buggery. Totally agree with you on the prep being worse than the actual colonoscopy. Hope you dont have to do it again anytime soon :(
