Hello All

I had an MRI looking for Crohn's of the SI 2 weeks ago and have just heard from the Hospital that they are sending me a letter about the results and also are contacting my gp.. so just waiting to see what the letter says
im thinking they might have found something, as for the other tests I had unless they actually found something, they never bothered to send word of it to me!

fingers crossed for finally getting a diagnosis!

The doc who is doing the MRI normally puts together a 2 pager of how he interprets results. He says (in medical terms) if he found any thickening of the intestine, where that is, whether he sees any strictures etc.

The letter may also say that they found nothing or that whatever they saw (which will also be described) is not really a big thing.

As to diagnosis, I am not sure that the MRI will/should be the basis of a diagnosis. For Crohn's and UC, the most common way to diagnose people is by colonoscopy and tissue sample linked with a description of symptoms and blood tests. The MRI can of course show if there are problems in the smaller intestine, where a colonoscopy can't reach.

All the best,
Alex

Hi Alex

thanks for the informative post.

I have already had a colonoscopy and many other tests, including calprotectin stool test which showed high inflammatory markers.

the colonoscopy showed nothing but the calprotectin coupled with my symptoms made them think it could be upper GI Crohn's, hence the MRI as a later diagnostic tool.

I hope you've got a diagnosis - I feel like we're struggling the same!!
I have a SB MRI tomorrow - I know now not to hold my breath for the results...
