Hello:) I have an ileostomy due to complications from indeterminate crohns/colitis. About 2 years ago (when stoma was new) I got a mucocutaneous separation which healed up. About 4 days ago I started having some pain at the same spot separation was and made an appt with the ostomy nurse. The next day when I went in there was what looks like to me a separation in the same spot as two years ago. They are making me nervous saying it's uncommon for that to happen so far past surgery so I have an MRI on Friday. Has anyone experienced separation at stoma site later on maybe due to already weakened skin or pressure from their appliance? I am very nervous and not sure what to expect!

Hi.
I had an ileostomy fitted a week ago today.
I have been told I have separation. I can't help you with your current problem but I was just wondering what was your first experience of separation?
I have a lot of bruising and I am in a lot of pain.
I only noticed the gap today x

My first separation I had no bruising but it was painful :( I met with my ostomy nurse and she had me use some soft substance (I forget what it's called) but you place it over the separation at bag changes and in a week or two it was healed over :)

Ah thank you very much. I'm seeing my stoma nurse Tuesday so I'm sure she'll help me then.
Thank you! X

I had mucocutaneous separation after having my Stoma, although it happened after a few weeks. It was absolutely excruciating pain, so much so that I was readmitted to hospital for a night.
My Stoma nurse suggested using orabase paste in the gap, then a hollister adapt barrier ring over the top, which was brilliant, it granulated up within a couple of weeks.
I hope you find something that works for you.

I have this right now and i an in serious pain. I am 4 weeks post op. I have used stoma powder over the gap, then eakin seal over that and then wafer. I noticed that i am bleeding from the gap and i see blood in my bag, next to where the gap is. This is agony!

How long is it take to heal? How could you clean up the gap? Even water hurts so bad. How often did you change your appliance? What else did you use?

I have been in bed for two days. Only getting up few times a day when i go to pee and change the bag. When i am up the pain is so bad that i could cry!
