Wow, thats the first I have heard of a "specialist" telling their patient (let alone someone with this condition ), "not to worry" or care about vitamins.

I don't see how it could hurt, I definatley would take one even if I wasn't a Crohnie. I always had that run down feeling so I starting talking a multi that was like a Super B complex as well and I have a lot more energy than I did in the past.

I take Mulit, Vit. D, Calcium with D, B Complex, Folic Acid, Ginger, Green Tea, Tumeric, Fish Oil, Vit. B12, and probiotic.

I think that is all . . .

Hey Claire!

Gotta agree with Mike here.... kinda weird a "specialist" would say such a thing....

Multivitamins are kind of a weird thing for us though....and sooooooo different for different people! A lot is going to depend on what parts of your intestines are involved...as different areas of the intestines absorb different vitamins out of our food. There are some vitamins and minerals you do have to be careful of - it is possible ot OD on them and do a bit of damage to liver or kidneys... (this is mostlly true with minerals...iron, zinc, magnesium, etc..... not so much with the vitamins...)

For the most part, especially when experiencing diarrhea, best bet is just a good all purpose multivitamin.... nothing fancy with extras in it...just start with the basics. If you need extras of certain things (Vit B complex, calcium, vit D. etc)... it is best to add them over and above until you come to the right amount. It sucks cause it means you are taking MORE pills... but better than overdosing on something you are not sure of.

If you have access to a dietition or nutrition specialist, it may be a good idea to get in touch with them. If you know what areas of your intestine are involved, even better, as they will be able to help you pinpoint exactly what you might need or might be lacking....

For all of their knowledge....very few doctors actually know alot about nutrition...that is why we have people that specialize in that area!!

Hope you find some help!

Sounds like me! Every day I take multi-vitamin, B12, D, probiotic, ginger, peppermint oil, calcium, fish oil, and cranberry extract. If I didn't drink 2 mugs of decaf tea every day, I'd probably take green tea pills also.

I don't see the harm in taking a multi-vitamin, even if your doctor said you don't need to. I prefer the gummy multi-vitamins as it's one less pill I have to swallow every day. :)

Hey! I wasn't taking one and i had hectic hair loss etc etc etc and then i started taking one a few weeks ago and i couldn't believe the difference! I would say you should try it!

Stussy, just an thought but you need to be on certain vitamin, minerals and supplements. If you have a naturalpath or dietician for bowels, they will set you straight. I have a dietician and she knew so much about Crohns and also set me on the proper diet and portion sizes and what to avoid. Calcium and Vitamin D3 is so important, especially females!

I have just started taking a kids multivitamin. It has about 50% of your daily requirement of vits, so I am not worried about having too much vitamins, plus its chewable so I figure it must be easier to digest than whole pills.

Yes, take your vitamins. Please. :D I take B-12, Vit. C, Magnesium, and a multi vit with a lot of Iron and Folic Acid.

The B-12, Iron and Folic acid I take for crohns. Vit. C is just to stay healthy and well, and the Magnesium is for my heart.

I agree totally. I take a multi and also a vitamin C and probiotic. I also use bee products, bee pollen and royal jelly for energy.

I do a daily that is like a super b, iron, magnesium, 2 fish oils, 2 aloe veras, calcium, vitamin d, and a probiotic.

If you decide to just go with the multi-vitamin, it was recommended to me to take 1/2 in the a.m and 1/2 with your dinner. Your body can't absorb it all at once and you will just expel it.

I a with everyone else though, if you can see a dietician - all the better.

Thanks everyone, ive got to pop in to the chemists to pick my tablets up on friday, so will have a word with the dietician there :)

Fingers crossed it may give my body/brain a bit of a boost, no harm in trying i guess :D
