I was trying to find the answer to a question about my disease when my son found this site. I've read some of the stories so I should write mine. I've had crohns disease for aprox. 40 yrs and I have learnt a few things!
I was first dx after the removal of a tumour in my bowel when I was 30. I can't even give an accurate number of the amount of surgeries I've had over the years but it's over 15. I now have short bowel syndrome, osteoporosis, inflammatory rheumatism but I still have my sense of humour! :thumleft:
I trained as a councillor and hypnotherapist but was unable to work as the crohns was so aggressive. In between all of this I married, moved country and came back again, had 3 children (including twins!), divorced, moved house and have been so lucky with the great children I have (all of whom partly grew up up in a w/c!) I try to enjoy life as much as possible. I love doing lots of things when I can, I live close to the sea and the mountains so I try and get out as much as possible as I believe this really helps! I love meeting people so I hope to make some good friends on this forum.
I have worked on a crohns help line in London while I lived there dealing mainly with teenagers. I wish there was more support here in Ireland.
I have a question at the moment which is worrying me a lot and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I saw my surgeon yesterday after being referred by my GI guy. I have developed a protruding hernia which is quite painful and causes nausea. The surgeon basically said to operate on the area any more would be "detrimental". When I asked what he meant he would not explain so I feel very in the dark about my options. Does any one have any advice on what I could do?
I hope I'll hear from some one and I'm so happy to have found this site. Talking about our illness is so important.
Ps. Is there any one out the as old as me? Around the 60 mark! Haha!
Best regards, Miss Billey
