my body hates remicade

I just went for my remicade treatment and since i always have a reaction this time they have me benadryl and dome other things beforehand. They also made it so it dripped really slowly and it would end up taking 4 hours instead of two.I was confident I wouldnt have a reaction.I fell asleep and woke up unable to breath again.I had barely gotten any of the bag yet! After getting some oxygen and an inhaler I was starting to feel better. The nurse called my gastroenterologist and he said "dump the rest down the drain,no more remicade for her!"Thank god for medical assistance.Thats $2,800 down the drain literally. Now I have to see him next week to figure out what to do with me.Has this happened to anyone else that can give me a heads up on whats next? Please say not surgery.

Yah Its happenec to me in the begining.
They were giving it to me to fast so they slowed it down.
Now they give me 2tabs benaydrl and 2 tabs tylnol and I havnt had a reaction since.
Sorry to say that maybe your body just cant handle Remicade.
Just talk to your GI and see what he suggests.

ask about humira, enbrel, or one of the newer biologic meds and see what he says. remicade is made from mouse proteins and doesn't mesh with the body sometimes.. humira, however, ususes human antibodies so you are less likely to have a reaction although it might take longer to work. also, if your doctor doesn't have a problem with it (yes ask him/her first), see if taking a probiotic supplement helps. I take Primal Defense by Garden of Life and you can find it on vitaminshoppe.com costs a litle bit but has helped me alot and that's the only thing that matters :) they sometimes suggested probiotic supplements to people on high doses or long courses of antibiotics.

Hi Brando
I do take probotics called VSL#3 works great for me.Twice daily
About the humria,I have asked my dr this and he said is just about the same as taking Remicade.I shall ask him again on my next visit.
YOu said this humria is human antibodies and is this also an infusion and if so how long does it take?

it's a shot that you take once every other week. it isn't an infusion that takes 4 hours like remicade.

also what strains of bacteria are in your probiotic supplement?

Hi Brando
VSL#3 is 450 billion yogurt bacteria per sachet.
My Dr. gives them to me so I dont have to pay (Thank God)
I read about VSL#3 on there web site.
I also tried Florastor but found thet did not work as well for me.
Florastor sachet says for use in acute or chronic diarrhea, bloating, and gastrointestinal disorders.
Each sachet contains Lyophillized Saccharomyces boulardii 282.5 mg.of yeast.
To find out more about this go to http://www.florastor.ca Hope that helps you.

i'm not big on yogurt because it contains alot of sugar which helps the anaerobic bacteria and other bad bacteria reproduce. yogurt does seem to help some people though but i take a lactobacillus acidophilus, other lactobacillus strains, and bifidobacterium strains mixture that is pretty much standalone rather than in yogurt or another food. I noticed it works 10x better than yogurt.

i also take an anti-yeast pill that contains garlic juice, yucca juice, and syrian oregano and coupled with the probiotics does wonders. i eat gluten free bread (not much taste but better than nothing) and don't eat dairy. if i eat dairy i take lactaid enzyme and it seems to help some.
