I've always had fistulas and abscesses on my butt it's nothing new to me but I'm scared my dr may be leaning towards surgery to fix my painful butt!!! It's not a bad pain at all I'm actually used to it but I know they can't stay there forever cause of infection so I'm just nervous about a possible surgery to fix these problems. Does anyone else have trouble with fistulas and abseses on there backside? Is this common with Crohn's disease cause for me it's been a constant pain in my rear!!!!

Hi,
Yes I had and have both those problems, and I have had four operations on my rear. I had a very large piece of my buttock cut away. It was so deep and long I could fit all four fingers in it. It is then left open to heal, which makes going to the toilet a bit of a nightmare as you have to wash it out by hand. Although I would also sit in the bath for an hour twice a day. I now also have a seton drain/stitch in place which allows the abscesses to drain and not form. Which does mean you have to put protection in your underwear.
My abscesses were so bad I could barely walk because of the pain. I would not live with an abscess regardless of whether it hurt or not.
What I have said my sound bad, but its ok.

I had one operation on a fistula when I was first diagnosed and left a awful scar and took forever to heal!! This absess is not nearly as bad but I don't want it to get as bad as the first either? I guess I'll find out tomorrow the next step to getting this healed up. Thanks for the advice

What meds are you on? I had big issues with this, not to a surgery extent though, and remicade cleared mine up. They haven't returned in about 4 years. I wouldn't jump to surgery right away. From what I have read, the recovery is far from pleasant.

I'm on entocort 9mg daily right now but I was on remicade in the past and that was a miracle cure for my Crohn's symptoms fistulas and all maybe one day I'll work back up to it or atleast find a less aggressive maint drug that well put me back into remission. Thanks guys!!
