Hi
My Daughter is 10, she has lost a lot of weight, she sometimes feels sick after eating.
She went for Barium & Xrays and was told she has gastritis.

I have CD diag Nov 10, I'm on 6MP 100mg, Pred 40mg & Modulen

Is gastritis similar to Crohn's?
Thanks

H toneloc and :welcome:

I'm so sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis. I hope things are settling for you with your treatment.

I'm also sorry to hear that your daughter is having problems, poor love. Gastritis is similar to Crohns in that that they both cause inflammation but their causes and treatments are different. In view of your diagnosis, and the fact she is losing weight, I would keep an open mind as to your daughters diagnosis, perhaps keep a diary to track exactly what is going on. We have one in the wiki that you may find useful...Diary Inclusions.

Good luck hun and welcome aboard!

Thanks for your reply
She is a poor thing indeed.
That is great advice, I will keep a diary to see what things upset her.
My Mom & Dad both had RA, I have Crohn's looks like my Daughter is getting an autoimmune disease too :-(

It does run in families??

Best wishes to you & your family

Also keep an eye out for symptoms that you wouldn't normally associate with a gastrointestinal problem. Eye problems, rashes, joint pain, headaches...they are listed in the diary and are what is referred to as EIM's (Extra Intestinal Manifestations).

There are people on the forum that are the only ones in their family that have IBD but then there are others like my children. I don't have Crohns and neither does my partner but both of our children do. He has a first cousin with CD but that is it. I have no doubt in my mind that it is hereditary in their case and I would have to say that with your family history of autoimmune disorders I would remain vigilant with your daughter.

Welcome Toneloc! I think most on here would agree that heredity plays a role. Though there's no proof of that in our case.

Have the doctors mentioned doing endoscopy/colonoscopy on her. I would think with your family history, they'd be more inclined to consider the possibility of crohns. Keep pushing until you get absolute answers and a treatment plan that works for her!!

Thanks
We are trying to see the consultant again to push for further investigations
Cheers
All the best my friend

Tony
