Hi ..I am new to this sight but am looking for any advice or help available. here is my story thus far...my daughter is 9 and has been suffering on and off with sotmach aches and issues for several years now. She is allergic to tree nuts and sesame so anytime she is having a stomach issue I am looking to see if she ingested anything she could be allergic to but we are sooo careful about her allergies that we realized that was not the problem. We just chalked it up to her having a sensitive stomach as I did when I was a kid. Over the past month we have been to the pediatrician 4 times all for stomach aches. She had a terrible headache and threw up,they said migrane that made her puke. She had terrible stomach ache and weird bowl movements(no real diarrheah) and the Dr. said virus.
We went back again and they said still virus. The last time we finally saw our regular doctor and he said we needed to be more aggressive and find out what is going on here. My daughter either has marbles when she goes to the bathroom or explodes with mushy and funky color poop. He did blood work for celiac, xray of belly to see if constipated and stool samples. The blood came back neg., the xray showed mild to moderate constipation so she is on miralax and it is def. helping, she is having normal bowl movements for the first time in years. So, we all thought that she was just constipated. She is still having belly aches but not as bad. The Dr. just called yesterday that her caloprotein? levels were 350 and that we may need to go and see a gastro dr., although he feels that she has no other real Crohn's symptoms. After the call, I went online to research this test and Crohn's alittle further to find that she does have other symptoms that I would never know are related to Crohn's...she has been getting mouth sores for years.
I never told the pediatrician because they have mostly been in her gum line so we end up at the dentist and she just says she must be prone to them and treats them with topical prescritpion cream. She recently had one on her tongue and side of her mouth, but we just think she is prone to them based on what the dentist said..She also had had slight rectal bleeding after bowl movements, maybe 2-3 times in the past year but we always attributed that to the pushing hard to poop and making marbles. Now that this test came back 350 and the sores in her mouth and slight bleeding, I am thinking Crohns and thinking we need to take this further before it gets worse..any thoughts out there from others who have gone thru this would be so helpful right now.
BTW..have a call in to the dr. to let him know about the sores in her mouth. Also, can you have Crohn's with constipation and no real diarrheah, just loose mushy stools? Is there any other reason for the stool test for inflammation to come back elevated?
