After reading many posts on the forum about other peoples diets I've come to think I might be an anomaly of some sort. I seem to be able to eat almost anything. I stay away from eating too much of one thing at a time or my stomach will get upset. I also avoid consuming alcohol, milk, and uncooked meat/fish. I generally cook my own meals which consist of for the most part all natural/organic foods. I generally don't have problems with the foods I eat. Could this be because the medicine I'm taking, Remicade, is working well or could it be that I have a different condition?:sign0085:

At a guess, the medication is working well. I am taking azathioprine, and I find that as time goes by, the range of foods I can eat increases. I am guessing it is because my intestines have had chance to heal.

I think of it like eczema or something. Even after you start treatment and the actual eczema has gone, the skin will be pink, moist and delicate for a little while. If you were to rub a loofah or something rough on it, it would hurt. But loofah-ing fully healed skin is fine. It's the same in your intestines I think- some foods are rough or sharp and will make irritated intestines worse but if your guts are healthy there shouldn't be any problems.

mistergreenegenes19 - I am also on Remicade and exactly the same with regards to diet. I can also eat pretty much anything in moderation. I also stay away from alcohol as well as really rich, fatty or creamy foods as that seems to give me a reaction.

I am also on Remicade...and JUST stopped taking prednisone. My last day was Thursday after a very long weaning off. Now I am paranoid that when I eat I am going to have a reaction. I feel like my stomach is giving me some issues this morning after I ate breakfast but I just hope the Remicade can hold its own after a year of prednisone....which decided to strike back at me with a face of inflammatory acne...just sayin'

I can eat whatever I want too.. Anything! No meds either :)

Glad it's working for you!

My GI increased my pred dosage to 35mg a day about 4 weeks ago (I had been hovering at the 20mg mark before that and was just functioning, trying to taper any lower than 20 made me really, really ill as the Asacol has not done anything). I've been feeling a lot (lot!) better since then but also I can eat many things I couldn't before - including ice cream! The downside is I've not really been making the healthiest choices as I've been so excited about eating "normally" again. Okay, I admit it, I've been a complete glutton. I'm always hungry, and I've been hitting the junk food something shocking, to the point where I'm embarrassed by my diet. So now that I've put on 3-4 kilos that I really needed I will start with the healthy eating and ease back in to exercise as I know how bad all that processed stuff is for us IBDers (and everyone, I guess).

But I'm still very happy that I can now eat without pain and sitting on the toilet all day. I have been referred to a new GI as I've moved cities and the plan is to start Azathioprine and taper the pred with the new doctor, so I'm hoping that the results will keep up when my medication changes and I start to reduce the prednisone. It's such a miracle drug but I hate the moon face and acne it's brought with it!! My cheeks actually hurt when I smile some mornings, they're so puffy! I've read that the puff is caused by salt retention so that's another reason for me to lay off the chicken nuggets and fish finger sandwiches :shifty-t:

Sorry for the long reply :)

That is the interesting thing about prednisone...the highest I was ever on it was 20mg...that was the cut off point for awhile...well until Remicade....just crazy though because I just don't feel "right" today. I can't put my finger on it...could be a combination of soreness from working out again and weird stomach...I guess we'll see...I just want to lay down and nap.

I can also eat anything without any pain or symptoms. I also can drink dairy, alcohol, etc. I am very grateful that i can eat everything, but also feel its odd. I am on prednisone right now and Imuran. I have been able to eat mostly everything, without too much pain or diarrhea. I do get some bloating but thats it.

I'm the same way, have always been able to eat and drink everything pretty much. Coffee and beer sometimes give me D, but that has to do with timing and amount -- and honestly, those things give people who don't have IBD problems as well. Occasionally I'll have problems with some foods, but it's always hard to pin down exactly what the trigger was (if there was one).

Thanks for all the answers. I'm very similar to notfullyfathomed it generally has to do with wether I eat too much of one food instead of getting the proper balanced nutrition. Also jennywilliams I don't think he meant overeating I think he was implying that he didn't eat the proper foods to keep his bowels moving properly.

I can eat anything I want too. Though I do try to avoid dairy products, but honestly when I do eat them, I don't have a lot of problems with it so I probably could eat it regularly if I wanted too. I just don't like the consistency of most dairy items.
