just got diagnosed by my surgeon, gave mt nitrogyn to start and possibly botox. anyone ever have this, im nervous about the nitrogyn, any feedback would help, ty so

Is that the cream? If so I used it and it worked pretty quickly. It did give me a bit of a headache but nothing too bad and much better than the pain from the fissure!

I have had the Botox twice.
It did not work both times - however I would willingly try it again.
It was administered under a light general in a hospital with an overnight stay.
The first time - my fissure was literally cured overnight by an Infliximab infusion.
The second time - my anus and rectum were so ruined - I had to get a Stoma. I now take Humira and that has been less effective.

I hope the Botox works for - please keep us updated.
I always have a giggle that ladies have Botox injected into their faces - and I have injected into my butt. I must have a very youthful looking sphincter!! Lol

Welcome to the fissure club! :)

Sorry you have one and they can hurt and can be really hard to get rid of. In addition to what you've been prescribed maybe you could talk about adding a steroid/lidocaine gel or cream. It's soothing and can help clear it up. You can't use it long term because it thins the skin over time.

Also, you can get Calmoseptine cream which is OTC. I can only find it at walgreens and even then you have to ask the pharmacist for it because they keep it behind the counter. It is good stuff and is made with fistulas/fissures in mind. It helps the moisture barrier.

Like the above user said, if the fissures are caused by uncontrolled Crohn's usually a biologic can nip that in the bud, like Remicade but that is a strong drug and your GI would have to consent.

Take care!

thats funny. youthfull sphincter. will try botox soon i think, just hope its a office procedure

thx guys for the feedback but my doctor failed to inform me that nytro should not be taken if your anemic and getting infusions. just makes it very bad. thats why i have no faith in any of them, so i take 500 mg of stool sofner and drinks tons of water and ground up my oatmeal, which caused this in the first place, so i feel so much better today. i guess its just commen sense and trial and error, always check with a good pharmacist, who know more then any doctors

I have really bad fissures and my doctor had me get a medicine
Called too bad cream. It works well on the pain and itching. It has diltiazem, baclofen, amitryptiline, and lidocaine.

hi everyone. Got my first fissure last sept and this is embarrasing. I got it from using my finger to manually take out stool, was very badly constipated. Did this 2 days in a row and will never ever do it again. Second day i got it and felt burning. Dr. gave me dilitiazem but never used it for fear of headaches. I did the sitz baths and vasaloine and ocasionaly steriod cream. I still do sitz after each bm. but kind of slacking off. I saw gastr dr. on sept 10. First time seeing one and asked about the fissure and she said its healed. I told it kind of burns sometimes and she was going to prescribe a a cream and i told i have some. If it's healed, why is she trying to give me some cream. I quess it never goes completely away, is that correct. I just hope it goes away completely and i could still kick myselt for using my finger.
