Hi everyone, Im a newbie! hehe. So, I guess I should tell you my story...
I was diagnosed with Crohns Disease when I was 19 years old...I kinda of diagnosed myself before I went to the doctor, as my Dad has/had it too, so I knew what the symptoms were. I should have placed a bet with my G.P., because she said that it wouldn't be anything like that, as I was young...I coulda won some money! Hehe
So, after I had what felt like a hundred blood tests, (and my first, terrifying colonoscopy and endoscopy!) I was referred to a my specialist. I have been on and off Steroids and have been on 6MP for my entire treatment so far.
Just over a year and a half ago, I went through some "denial and depression" (as my GP referred to it as) and I stopped taking my medication.
I didn't take it for over 6 months (this is back in 2009), which forced me back into relapse. I lost just about all of my weight (i was down to 43kg's) and I was admitted to hospital. I was in hospital over Christmas, with basically no one. I have my boyfriend here and he spent as much time with me as possible, but thats not the same as being home with friends and family.
Anyway, I ended up having 2 blood transfusions after being diagnosed as being aneamic and I lost about just over half of the blood in my body (doctors still dont know how!). I was released on Boxing Day, and started getting better since then. Gained the weight back and got my life back on track...mostly. There are some things that I need to talk about, but Ill do that in another post.
Wow, thats longer then I expected! So thats just a bit about my journey with this disease so far! Would love to get to know you all, and compare stories and experiences!
