So I flared again !!!! Last week I had a horrible flu, and on Wdnesday morning woke up vomitting like hell. I was rushed to the ER, where they did a cT scan (after vomitting the contrast a few times) and it turned out I had a partial obstruction.

I stayed in the hospital for 2 days on IV fluids and steroids, and now I'm out back on 40 mg Prednione and I hate it.....

The doc says I have 2 options now: Remicade or surgery to remove about 15 cm of my terminal ileum and the ileocecal valve. Well needless to say I hate both options.

In my mind I'm thinking of 2 other solution : SCD diet and LDN. But both for me are problems:

- SCD: I'm getting married in 2 months and with all the hectic preparations , family visits and dinners, outings etc..., and honeymoon, it would be impossibe to stick with SCD

As for LDN, here in Lebanon, the doctors don't prescribe it as it's not FDA approved in the US, and there are no pharmacies to fill it.

I'm confused and don't know what to do :confused2: I only want to live normally and get married and have a nice family, but this disease seems to flare at the worst times:ymad: .........

Hey Mazen... Getting the drug (LDN) can be a hurdle... there ARE some options. I suggest you checkout the lowdosenaltrexone.org website.. There are US drs who will do a phone consult (tho it's a bit pricey) and then you can have it shipped out to you from various US pharmacies.. BUT... LDN takes time to work, you could flare even worse while waiting for it to kick in.. and there's no guarrantees. And I don't think it would resolve your obstruction. So, if you are faced with a choice of surgery or steroids, that's a call you'll have to make. I think a lot of folks faced with those 2 choices would opt for the pred first. And if you go that route, then you might want to see if you can get the LDN via a US phone dr... do the pred course, wait a few days, then try the LDN. If it fails, you still have the operation as a fallback; if it works... then life can be oh so much better.

Ya obstructions are no fun, I get those as well. I know how annoying it can be when you think the only options you have are not really options, to you, at all. I can't help you to decide what course to take - I can only tell you that I understand what it feels like having to go to the hospital with an obstruction. Good luck.

Hey Mazen. I hope you feel better soon.

Also, the next few months are going to be very hectic so just try to relax and stay calm during the stressful times. Congrats

Get better soon

I have had two resections, obstruction was 6 years after the first, and only a partial one after the second, but I had a scope in Feb no strictures or narrowing, just the active crohns,,,, that is plenty enough.

Thanks....6 years sounds good enough too me.

Thanks guys. I'm feeling much better now on the Prednisone, so I guess I'll give it a chance and hope it does the job like before and keep me in remission for a while.....

Yeah I would stick with the pred for a while, then try to switch to LDN after your wedding. Just be careful I reflared after they took me down to 20mg of pred. And as Kev said remember LDN works kinda slow and diet in each instance helps.
