I almost went to the er. My pain has been on the left side lower for several weeks, the scale ranges from a 3 to a 7. Last night my right side starts hurting out of nowhere. It's still there, but down from an 8 to a 4. Its pretty much a straight line from my belly button all the way over to my side just above the hip bone. It was much worse when standing or walking. I decided not to go to the er. Going to try to wait this out till upper endoscopy on the 31st. Has the pain started on a different side out of nowhere to anyone else? Is it something to be concerned about?

We have kind of a saying or a general rule around here - if you're questioning whether to go to the ER, you should go to the ER! You don't want to have a blockage or a perforation or anything like that, it could be life-threatening. Better safe than sorry! Definitely call your doctor and let them know about the new pain - that's another general rule, let your doctor know when you get new symptoms. At any rate, call your doctor, and they may end up telling you to go to the ER. For sure you should go to the ER if the pain worsens or if you get new symptoms (projectile vomiting, fever, etc). Hang in there, worried about you! I hope it's nothing, but it's better to get checked out than to wait on this type of thing.

Today it doesn't really hurt anymore than the left side has for nearly 2 weeks. I will call the dr and let them know, and if it gets worse again I'll go to the er. I'm really not sure what to consider normal right now since it seems like my onsides are insistant on doing whatever they want!

I couldn't get through to my dr today. I was feeling a little better, ubtil I ate about an hour ago. I ended up running to the bathroom about 20 minutes ago, only went a little, and keep having urges that feel like I'm really gonna go and it ends up being a little. Pain is going up a little and I'm feeling nausea. Stool I loose but not liquid, its gross but its really small thin, stringy pieces (sorry, tmi). Guess I'm getting ready for another fun night!

Please do think about going to the ER - this doesn't sound good. It could be a partial blockage, and you definitely don't want it to turn into a full blockage! A partial blockage would let diarrhea or loose stool flow around it (could explain why you feel the urge to go but can only go a little - only a little is passing around the blockage). Please go to the ER if this keeps up or if it gets worse? This is worrisome and these situations can turn into emergencies really fast. I don't mean to scare you, but I do want you to be okay. It's better to go to the ER and have it be nothing, than to wait it out and then need emergency surgery or something like that, right? Hang in there and I really hope it's not a blockage!

I agree with Cat - and does your doctor have someone on-call? Many places do, or an answering service.....

Heading out soon. Hubby is feeding kids dinner and going to get my mom to sit with them. Hoping it's nothing but geting too scared to not go and find out.

Seven hours, six tubes of blood, one CT scan with contrast, and one pelvic ultrasound later it has been determined that, other than being in severe pain, there is nothing wrong with me. Now I remember why I hate hospitals.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm glad it wasn't anything like a blockage or a perforation. Just because they didn't find anything doesn't mean there's not a legitimate illness causing your pain. Unfortunately not all doctors (or ERs) are created equal. How are you doing today? Did they give you any medication for the pain?

I've slept nearly all day. They did send me home with pain meds and something for nausea. I feel so run down today that I could go back to sleep now and sleep till tomorrow! It's just hard to believe with how much pain I'm in there's nothing there.
