O.k. so about 5 weeks ago i started wiping blood after stools.. Went to doctor a week later got refered to the rudd clinic, got scoped and a colonoscopy and they found inflamation in my rectum and 2 spots further up. for approx. 3 weeks i have been bleeding consistently and suffering cramps, constipation, stomach or intestine growling, fatigue, weight loss etc.. i was diagnosed with ulcerative protitus from the scope biopsy and then crohns from the colonoscopy.. I started taking 2 pills orally in morn and eve salofalk 500mg, aminosalicylic 500mg about three weeks ago and it didnt help with the bleeding. Then started taking suppositories 1 each night of salofalk, didnt stop the bleeding or symtoms.. just last friday the doctor told me to start taking both pills orally and the suppository and he prescribed me an antibiotic metronidazole 500mg to take 4 times a day to prevent possible infection which has made my insides feel horrible.. STILL BLEEDING.. Havent seen a gastroentrologist yet, they got me booked for dec. 31st and on a cancellation list.. Thats way to long of a wait to see a specialist.. Also I have been told by about ten people in the last week that i look pale and i have lost 10 pounds. Anyone have any information or suggestions for me?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear you are still having ongoing problems with the bleeding. Who currently has been organising the tests and meds if not a GI? Are they able to try and get you an appt sooner with a different GI to who you have currently been referred to or at least precribe something different for you? It is large or small amount of blood that you are getting with your bm's? Proctitis is a form of Ulcerative Colitis commonly found in the lower end of the colon towards the rectum so it is worth checking out our UC forum to see if the folks here have any suggestions on what can at least help with symptoms: http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=69.

Will be keeping fingers crossed that you can be getting some improvement soon hun, please keep us updated on how you are doing.

Hi there and welcome to the community. I'm so sorry to hear of your struggles :(

I was a little confused by your medications until you stated that you hadn't seen a GI yet. I say that because they are not the best medications for Crohn's Disease. They may help a little, especially if you do indeed have both CD and UC. But yes, you need to get in to see a GI before December 31st. A few things:

1. You're probably experiencing iron deficiency anemia. If you feel any worse, head in to whatever doctor you can or even your emergency room and have them give you a full workup.

2. Look into enteral nutrition. Utilizing it may be a way for you to help control your symptoms while you wait for your GI appointment.

We're here for you.
