Hi my name is Juan! Im a newbie to this forum. Last thursday i was diagnose with Ulcerative colitis and was prescribed Acasol and Pred. For a few days i only took acasol because i was hesitant to take pred becuase i took it before and it was the worst drug ever. Well yesterday my doctor told me that i need to take pred because my colon was so inflamed that pred was the only medicine at this point that would helped me the most. What a bummer. Acasol helped aliltte especially with the diarreah. But i was still pooping with blood and some white stuff.

Im on day 2 for pred and i have to take it for a month. 40 mg for 14 days, then taper to 30mg for 5 days, then 20 mg for another 5 days, then 10mg for another 5 days, and finally 5mg for 5 days. Is this a safe taper schedule?

right now i been feeling high and dizzy the whole day and at night i get insomnia. Only slept 4 hours last night. Also i get a rapid heart beat once in a while and cant concentrate and tend to forget things

I cant wait to get off this horrible medicine

Taper schedule may be different for different people, so I would suggest you follow his advice. Advise him of any side effects. I was weaned off it one time and apparently too fast, as my knee blew up to the point where the skin almost split it! Once they know you are having side effects, they can make adjustments to the meds and relieve your problems. Report your rapid heart beat and dizziness, to be safe. Meds can have some horrible side effects!

I would also suggest a strong probiotic to help your belly each day. I recently began taking these again and bought a very strong one and am having incredible resuls. Hope you are feeling better soon!

Hi Juan, welcome to the forum :bigwave: I am sorry you got UC but at least here you can get some support. Pred is an evil drug but the taper you are on , is what my doc prescribes because the less you are on it the better. I have had a 4 day and then taper. My last one I started on my own, because I have had crohns 20 years plus. Asacol is a mild drug, and pred is good but you need to take something whilst on 40mg I have been awake for 48 hours once, now I start on 30mg and it works for me. Take something at night to sleep.

Rapid heart beat is common, do you drink caffeine or coffee? If you do eat toast with it, to absorb it. It gives you whizz feeling and that is common too. A few days after you are down to 30mg it mostly goes away.
