i am scared about having my first colonoscopy

i am scared about having my first colonoscopy because my reg doctor told me i may need one to find out whats going on with me :(:confused2:

Nothing to be scared about with colonoscopies. i had my first at 20 years old and my 2nd a few months ago. You don't even know they did anything to you. ITs the prep that sucks because you have to drink a ton of liquid on an empty stomach and it can make you want to puke. Its interesting though. I got pictures of my colon. I had a egd too(went down my throat).Couldn't even tell they went down my throat. I got diagnosed with crohns just a few months ago and all i had was inflammation and swelling of my intestines. I got a partial blockage from the swelling and had to go to the er in severe pain. I've never had naseua or bloody dirrehea like alot of people with crohns. So I really think each person has their own "symptoms". My biggest problem has always been horrible abdominal cramps. I hope they figure out whats wrong and I'll pray its not crohns.Good luck!

I believe you are right about each person has there own symptoms for Crohns. I found out about 2 weeks ago, I went into the ER bleeding from my intestines.. Stayed there and did the upper GI then that night prepped for the lower GI (horrible stuff). I didnt feel anything on the lower gi I woke up in the middle of it in a daze. They discovered the right side of my small intestine is inflamed and swollen. And they also took biopsies.

i am having awful abdominal cramps to i mean server in 2007 i had to have a upper scope done and i woke up when they was doing it and was fighting them i was having trouble then but they keep saying nothing is wrong with me but i know there is something wrong and i will find out when i go to the GI doctor

I was diagnosed with crohn's when I was 16 and I'm now 28. I've had numerous colonoscopies..they're a piece of cake! To make things easier on you...ask your Dr. about giving you pills instead of liquid. I take the pills when I have my colonoscopies..it's about 40 something pills. You take several every 15 mins for a couple of hours. They're so much better!!! I have endometriosis as well and as far as symptoms for crohn's, there are alot of general symptoms but certain symptoms may be for severe for some than they are for others. If you have any questions I'll be more than happy to help in any way I can. Good Luck to you! I'll keep you in my prayers!

i dont want to be a downer folks but i had my 1st colonoscopie when i was 10 yrs old and needless to say after i was 14 i cant ever have one again,i was diagnosed w/ulcer,colitis at 9 and crohns at 18 and still dealin with the outcome,i am new here and if u have Q,s i got some answers, and ive never discussed it with noone and im 36 and i have finally relized i need to talk cuz ive got Q,s,so there i said it i need....help.

Hi Leah and welcome!

Deep breath and try to relax. The first step, or steps, is lots and lots of tests to see what's going on. Be patient and realize that it might take several tries to get a dx. Like Joan said, there are many ladies here with endo and it does seem to make Crohn's more complex.

Hang in there, be strong, and know that whatever you are going thru, there's someone here who has probably been thru almost the exact same thing.

Good luck and keep us posted!! - Amy

Welcome to you, too, Taylor - we'd love for you to start your own thread with your story so we can all learn about you, too!!

Hey Leah.

Hope the doctor called you back yesterday and gave you some answers as to what to do. Hope you're doing alright.

Check in when you can. :)

Welcome Leah!

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this. I had blood in my crap as well and that's what forced my mom to take me back to the ER. Colonoscopies are easy and the prep is the worst part. I had my first one last month at the age of fourteen. I hope everything goes well. Good luck!

no the doctor has not called me back yet and i am still having blood in my stool i am going to call them when i get up in the morning and see why they did not call me

If they don't call you back, please go to the ER. Losing large amounts of blood is never a good thing. Hope you can get in touch with the doc today!
