I'm looking for some advice as whether my story is typical of others experiences. I have an underactive thyroid and was diagnosed with a B12 deficiency 2 years ago. Blood tests came back clear and no further investigations were done for the B12 and I have the 3 monthly injections for this.

About six weeks ago I had my first bout of diarrhea with severe stomach cramps slightly to the right hand side low down just below my belly button. I put it down to a stomach bug and had another bout the same two weeks later, completely fine in between though, each episode lasted around 8 hours. No one else in the family came down with it which I did think was strange at the time.

A week and a half ago I had a more severe bout which lasted 16 hours and was even more painful, crying in pain, phoned the on call GP to be told there was a stomach bug going around and just to sit it out. Began to think it was too much of a coincidence. On Monday night it started again, this time the pain was even worse than previously and in the early hours of the morning I was admitted to A and E, doctors there did xray and bloods and was given pethidin for the pain which was a huge release from the pain. Bloods came back clear, doc said xray showed inflammation on right hand side and that this could be felt as well.

Was transferred to ward where docs monitored me, again after 12 hours pain cleared and felt fine though tired and wiped out. The sister on the ward said to me that she would be very surprised if it wasn't Crohn's as this tied in with my symptoms and the B12. Next day was discharged docs have referred me to specialist but don't think it's inflammatory bowel disorder so now I'm really confused on what to think and who to beleive. Is any of this familiar to anyone, the bouts of pain are worse than labour and I've had three children, surely it's not normal.

Really could do with some advice, I'm dreading it happening again.

Thanks

Claire

Not sure what this means.

Hi Claire, welcome to the forum.
Everyone's symptoms with Crohn's are different, so as much as it sounds like it could be Crohn's, you will really need a doc to tell you for sure.
When is your appointment with the specialist? He/she will probably do a colonoscopy, as those are very common when first trying to diagnose a patient. Then maybe you will have a better answer.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm 32 and live in Wales. They said the appointment will be hopefully in the next few weeks but I'm not getting my hopes up that it will be that soon.

Just don't know if I should be pushing for anything more than is being done, they have mentioned they might poss do a colonoscopy.

Hello Claire,

I had Crohn since 8 years, and i'm having such symptomes (cramp + vomiting + stomac pain)
Whenever i am in such pain, i put suppository (buscopan, no more buscopan in market, there is now spasfon), Sometimes i need more than 3 or 4 suppository to pass this pain.

Last time (since 3 weeks) my Dr. asked to enter the hospital, and as i coudlnt eat nor take any medicine, due to vomit and pain, they injected the buscopan in a serum.

There was nothing in the blood examination neither in the scanner.

My Dr. said that I might having this pain, after or before the period, or if i got cold, and that's what i noticed

So wishing you'll not have this pain again.

Good Luck
