I am new to this forum as of today. I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 2004, but looking back on symptoms, probably have had it since I was a teen. I just went through my first surgery last December. I had been on Pentasa since I was first diagnosed, but my doctor has me on Cimzia now. I am having some side effects, weight gain, joint pain etc. Anyone else having issues with Cimzia?

Hi Bailey :) Glad you found us!

I've been diagnosed a shorter time than you have, but I have looked back at the past and can pinpoint random times in my like that I thought I was fighting off a stomach bug or some other unexplainable health issue that I think was early signs of Crohn's.

I don't have any personal experience with Cimzia, as I am on Humira, but if you check out the Treatment forum, you can look and see what other threads people have posted about Cimzia. Also, located at the top left of the website is a Search option where you can search more specifically for Cimzia and other topics. Hope you can find more info on hat you are looking for with those two suggestions. :)

Weight gain should be normal for any person with Crohn's whose medications are working. Inflammation is the biggest reason why we have a hard time absorbing nutrients properly, not to mention diminishes our appetites. Once inflammation decreases, our appetites come back and the body is able to absorb more nutrients and vitamins. So, a person may experience more weight gain as a result of those two things. It is another good reason to engage in some light exercise to maintain healthy weight gain.

As far as joint pain, I did a quick Google search of Cimzia side effects. The first post to pop up was from Cimzia's website. Joint pain is listed as one of their top 3 side effect complaints. If the joint pain becomes unmanageable or worrisome, you should inform your doctor.

Hope that helps :) Welcome again!

Welcome Bailey!! Hope you're avoiding the brushfires!! Is Pentasa the only med you were on for the 6 or 7 years prior to your surgery?? Good luck with the Cimzia. We have a mom in the parent's section, CrohnsMom, whose daughter is on Cimzia. She has some issues with it too and may be of some help.

I've never taken it before but I have taken Prednisone which can make you have similar symptoms. If the side effects are mild compared to the help its giving you then I wouldn't worry about it too much. Although joint pain can also be a symptom of Crohn's as well so keep that in mind. Welcome to the forum! :D

Hi Bailey! I don't have any experience with Cimzia, but I wanted to welcome you to the forum. Have you checked out the Treatment forum, yet? If you post your questions about Cimzia there, I bet you'll get a much better response.

Once again, welcome to the forum and I look forward to seeing you around!
